Job summary

Silgan Plastic Food Containers is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep production equipment running and troubleshoot plant systems. The role requires working knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance, reading blueprints, and adherence to safety practices.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance on compressors and forklifts, repairing 3‑phase 480V equipment, and supporting start-up of production runs.

Qualifications

• Operate powered industrial trucks and lifts.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Have working knowledge and ability to perform skilled work as a mechanic or electrician to maintain and troubleshoot plant equipment. Demonstrate competence and knowledge of safety rules and practices. Demonstrate good communication skills with various levels within the organization. Have the basic knowledge to read and understand blueprints and procedures.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain and troubleshoot process/plant equipment.
• Perform preventive/routine maintenance on compressors, forklift trucks, oilers, and filters.
• Repair and troubleshoot 3‑phase 480V equipment.
• Repair and troubleshoot process controls – PLC & instrumentation controls.
• Accurately use and read a variety of measuring devices.
• Read and understand blueprints.
• Support production run start‑up.
• Perform form tooling and shear maintenance; set up drum and shear tools during changeovers.
• Truck equipment: drum stand removal & installation, drum wheel, extrusion die and lip change.
• Weld, plumbing and carpentry tasks as needed.
• Operate powered industrial trucks and lifts.
• Work 12‑hour shifts standing on concrete; lift up to 40lb regularly; go up steps; work in heat.
• Perform other designated duties of the quality system as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Preferred: Degree in Industrial Technology.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 3 years’ experience in maintenance of production machinery.

SKILLS:

• Basic knowledge of extrusion, vacuum systems, material transfer, air systems, preventative maintenance, safety equipment, forklift trucks, and plumbing.
