Job summary

LCMC Health in New Orleans is seeking a maintenance technician to perform general repairs and preventive maintenance in assigned areas, with emphasis on electrical safety and patient safety. The role requires documentation of tasks, collaboration with other crafts, and flexibility for nights/weekends.

Candidate should have at least 2 years of corporate maintenance experience and a high school diploma or GED. A valid Louisiana Class E license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general repairs and trouble-shooting in assigned areas, documents discrepancies and repairs.
  • Performs daily preventive maintenance inspections/repairs and electrical safety checks in patient rooms and on non-patient equipment.
  • Investigates maintenance requests with sound judgment before referring to other crafts.
  • Ensures work by others is completed in assigned areas and monitors maintenance in the area.
  • Demonstrates dependability and clear communication with team to complete tasks successfully.
  • Familiarity with life safety, patient safety, and infection prevention measures; inspects fire/smoke doors and partitions for NFPA compliance.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Performs general repairs and trouble-shooting in assigned areas: Takes the initiative to locate, document and repair unreported equipment/building discrepancies.
  • Performs daily preventive maintenance inspections/repairs in assigned areas, including all task related documentation: Performs electrical safety checks in patient rooms. Performs repairs/safety checks on non-patient equipment.
  • Investigates maintenance requests: Demonstrates effective judgement and decision-making skills by thoroughly investigating all maintenance request before seeking referral to other crafts.
  • Ensures all work done by other crafts is completed in assigned areas: Takes ownership of assigned area by monitoring others are working in the area to assure completeness of all repairs. Enters supply rooms on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions. Refrains from manipulating or removing any intravenous fluids that are stored in the area.
  • Demonstrates dependability: Works with other employees to accomplish required tasks and ensures open lines of communication to complete tasks in a successful and appropriate manner.
  • Patient Safety / Fire Life Safety: Strong knowledge of life safety, patient safety and infection prevention measures pertaining to craft trades. General knowledge of hospital operations. Inspects fire/smoke rated doors and wall partitions for compliance with NFPA standards. Conducts routine environmental and safety rounds.

Education Qualifications

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic/technician in a corporate setting.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Driver's License - Class E - Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Operates hand tools, power tools, equipment and electrical testing equipment requiring manual dexterity.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions, schematic drawings and layouts.
  • Utilize computer, printer, copier, telephone, calculator, cell phone and 2-way radios.
  • Ability to work alternative/shift work schedules including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime hours.
  • Working knowledge of computer maintenance management software.
