Job summary

Mahnomen Health Center is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of facilities and grounds. Duties include plumbing, carpentry, electrical, landscaping, and seasonal snow removal.

Ideal candidates will have a High School diploma or equivalent and be able to work outdoors in variable weather. On-call shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required to ensure safe and functional surroundings.

Description

The Maintenance Technician will perform general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of assigned equipment, facilities, and grounds. Responsibilities include plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, building systems, landscaping, lawn care, snow and ice removal, and other interior and exterior maintenance duties to ensure the property remains safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained.

Job Summary:

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Inspects facilities, grounds, equipment, and machinery to identify maintenance needs and required repairs.
• Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs and maintenance.
• Plans repair work using building blueprints, equipment manuals, or other resources as needed.
• Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, including drywall repair, painting, door repairs, and maintenance of other building fixtures.
• Performs routine maintenance on building systems and equipment.
• Performs grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, and maintaining lawns, landscaping, flower beds, trees, and shrubs.
• Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of exterior areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, entrances, and common areas.
• Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, and other designated areas as needed to maintain safe access.
• Collects and disposes of litter, leaves, branches, and other debris from the grounds and surrounding property.
• Inspects exterior areas for hazards, damage, or maintenance needs and reports or addresses issues as appropriate.
• Cleans and assists with the general upkeep of facilities, including interior and exterior areas.
• Orders supplies, materials, and equipment needed for building and grounds maintenance.
• Uses and maintains hand tools, power tools, and grounds maintenance equipment safely.
• Performs other maintenance and groundskeeping duties as assigned.
• Availability to participate in an on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency maintenance response as needed.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to follow instructions from supervisor, work independently, and prioritize assigned tasks.
• Knowledge of basic building maintenance, general carpentry, and minor repairs.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers, trimmers, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform seasonal duties as needed.
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to identify safety hazards, report maintenance concerns, and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

• Valid MN Boiler License
• Experience with routine building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall repair, and basic mechanical systems.
• Experience with landscaping, lawn care, snow removal, or commercial property groundskeeping.
• Knowledge of safe equipment operation and preventive maintenance practices.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Related experience preferred.
• On-job training offered.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing and walking.
• Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
• Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to perform repetitive physical tasks, including mowing, shoveling, lifting and moving materials.
