Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to ensure equipment operates effectively in our Michigan facilities. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, and support new equipment installations.

Strong teamwork and adherence to GMP, safety, and quality standards are essential. The role requires reading and following schematics, documenting repairs, and assisting other mechanics on complex tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of formal mechanical/electrical education certificate or equivalent work experience in maintenance.
  • Ability to perform electrical work (e.g., changing pump motors, diagnosing motor control problems).
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, solenoid valves, and air cylinders.
  • Ability to perform minor projects from planning to installation (non-sanitary piping, drain lines, vacuum lines).
  • Ability to perform routine repairs safely and timely (pumps, boiler maintenance, HVAC, VFDs, sanitary valves, piping leaks).
  • Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance on various equipment and maintain records.
  • Basic welding for repair and fabrication (tig/stick).
  • Ability to follow process control computer variables and schematics and diagnose system problems.
  • Assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and helpful manner.
  • Good interpersonal skills to foster cooperation and communication.
  • Must successfully complete a written maintenance test conducted by Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs of production and processing equipment as well as utility related equipment, following all safety procedures
  • Support the installation of new equipment
  • Assist the operators with training or troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime
  • Ensure all repairs are documented
  • Foster teamwork consistent with our company and plant Mission, Vision, and Core Values
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
  • Follow all DFA GMP’s and works in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues
  • Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrived
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgement
  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety, and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to, Safety, GMP, HACCP, and SQF

Job description

Ensure that all equipment is operating effectively and efficiently. Must have excellent proficiency in preventative maintenance, over-hauls, modification, fabrication, welding, and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair. Must also have working knowledge of machine shop equipment and excellent trouble shooting and problem solving skills.

  • Must have the ability to perform routine repairs in a safe and timely fashion (rebuilding product/water pumps, boiler maintenance, HVAC, VFD’s, sanitary valves, piping leaks)
  • Must have the ability to perform routine preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, identify any abnormal conditions, and maintain appropriate records
  • Must have the ability to perform basic welding for repair and fabrication (tig/stick)
  • Must have the ability to follow process control computer variables and schematics and diagnose system problems
  • Must have the ability to assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and useful manner
  • Must have good interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and effectively communicate with others
  • Must be able to successfully complete a written maintenance test conducted by Maintenance Supervisor
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
