Job summary

Smith+Neb is seeking a Maintenance Technician III to maximize the availability and performance of metal additive manufacturing equipment in Memphis, supporting safe, continuous production.

You will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and laser systems, document records in the CMMS, and assist with inventory management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS; willing to on-call.
• Experience with metal additive manufacturing equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on metal additive manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, control, and laser systems.
• Serve as SME for additive manufacturing equipment maintenance and escalate complex issues as needed.
• Improve equipment reliability and uptime; participate in root cause investigations.
• Document maintenance records in the CMMS and coordinate shift handovers.
• Manage critical spare parts and recommend inventory levels to reduce downtime.

As a Maintenance Technician III, you will help maximize the availability and performance of metal additive manufacturing equipment while supporting safe, continuous production in Memphis.

What will you be doing?

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on metal additive manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, control, and laser systems, diagnose failures, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for additive manufacturing equipment maintenance and escalate complex issues to Engineering, equipment manufacturers, or technical specialists when needed.
• Improve equipment reliability and uptime by addressing recurring issues, monitoring performance, and participating in root cause investigations.
• Complete scheduled preventive maintenance activities and accurately document maintenance records in the computerized maintenance management system.
• Provide technical support during production, coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption, and communicate equipment status during shift handovers.
• Manage critical spare parts, identify replacement components, and recommend inventory levels that reduce downtime risk.
• Follow electrical safety, lockout and tagout, powder handling, and laser safety requirements while maintaining a safe, clean, and audit ready work area.
• Support equipment availability, overall equipment effectiveness, downtime reduction, and maintenance cost improvement initiatives.

What will you need to be successful?

• A high school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. A technical degree, industrial maintenance certification, or apprenticeship is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting capabilities across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems, with the ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems, plus the ability to work off shift schedules and participate in on call support as required.
• Experience maintaining metal additive manufacturing equipment, Laser Powder Bed Fusion technology, industrial laser systems, optics, inert gas systems, vacuum equipment, CNC machining, automation, or other advanced manufacturing equipment is preferred.
• Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment and familiarity with industrial control systems or predictive maintenance technologies are also preferred.
