Job summary

East Jordan Plastics, Inc. is seeking Maintenance Technicians to lead change-overs and establish production processes for Recycling, Injection Molding, and Thermoforming lines.

You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot electrical systems, and complete planned upgrades to improve equipment reliability. Qualifications include 3-5 years in industrial electrical maintenance, knowledge of PLCs, servo drives, NFPA-70E, and the ability to work as part of a team in a manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial electrical maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with Injection Molding, Sheet Extrusion, Thermoforming and/or Die Trimming processes.
  • Electrical troubleshooting using NFPA-70E and safe work practices.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic system troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Execute change-overs of production tooling and set up initial production processes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and unplanned repairs during change-overs or downtime.
  • Troubleshoot machine malfunctions using electrical prints, PLCs, servo drives, and remote I/O.
  • Coordinate with vendors or internal resources for remote support and downtime reduction.
  • Support continuous improvements to reduce downtime and improve mean time between failures.

Job description

At East Jordan Plastics, all employees support the Production Operations. As such, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technicians primary responsibility is to execute change-over of production tooling and establish production processes for Recycling, Injection Molding, and Thermoforming operations. Traditional Industrial Maintenance duties such as performing preventative maintenance tasks, executing unplanned maintenance repairs, troubleshooting, and performing project work are completed after the production requirements for change over are met.

Essential Functions:
  • Execute all job assignments in compliance with all Company Safety Policies and Procedures
    • Understand and demonstrate proper application of NFPA-70E and the Companies Electrical Safe Manual work practices
    • Act as a resource on-site for matters of Electrical Safe Work Practices
    • Consult with company resources as appropriate to answer technical questions related to Electrical Safe Work Practices
  • Complete change-over of production tooling
  • Complete initial production process set-up (following Master Process) to deliver a production line that is producing quality product at established cycle rate
  • Execute unplanned equipment repairs as necessary during the change-over process or as otherwise assigned by Supervisor (troubleshooting, repairs, etc.)
    • Use electrical prints to diagnose and repair machine malfunction(s)
    • Access PLC Programs as necessary to diagnose and repair machine malfunction(s)
    • Access Machine Servo Drives as necessary to diagnose and repair machine malfunctions (via software of interface)
    • Understand and troubleshoot remote I/O system(s)
    • Understand remote access means (eWON, etc.) to work with vendors to support troubleshooting of downtime events on-line (remote support)
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Execute electrical project work as assigned. Projects may include:
    • Electrical Equipment Installation (Power Connection)
      • 120/208VAC Systems
      • 277/480VAC Systems
      • Proper sizing of piping, conductors, etc. per NEC
      • Consult with company electrical resources as necessary
    • Controls / Industrial panel wiring (modifications and updates)
    • Upgrades to equipment for operational improvements (controls modifications either via hard-wire or PLC)
    • PLC troubleshooting / program review
In addition to electrical tasks, complete projects based on additional skill sets:
  • Fabrication
  • Basic carpentry
  • Plumbing / Pipe Installation (pneumatic, water, hydraulic, etc)
  • Lifting & Rigging / Machinery movement and installation

Based on projects, repairs, or preventative maintenance tasks performed, provide feedback on correction actions and/or preventative measures to reduce equipment downtime or improve mean time between failure (Continuous Improvement)

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Experienced in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or equivalent work experience(s):
    • PLC
    • Servo Drive Systems
    • Print Reading / modification(s)
    • Analog industrial controls (relay logic)
  • Familiar with Injection Molding, Thin Sheet Extrusion, Thermoforming, and/or Die Trim processes and equipment
  • Electrical troubleshooting and proper application of industrial electrical safe work practices (NFPA-70E trained)
  • Experienced with Pneumatic system function and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Experienced with Hydraulic system function and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Ability to be a member of the team and support peers as necessary to share the assigned tasks
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3-5 yrs prior industrial electrical maintenance experience in manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with Injection Molding, Sheet Extrusion, Thermoforming and/or Die Trimming processes
  • Trade / technical school completion or ability to complete curriculum if requested
  • Electrical Journeyman or Master Electrician License a plus but not required
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking on concrete.
  • Required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands/fingers, bend, kneel reach with hand and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch/crawl and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to lift to up to 50 pounds at a time.
