Position Description

The Maintenance Technician supports operations and maintains production and quality by ensuring efficient operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. This position ensures company facilities are maintained to company and regulatory standards.

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of machinery and control instruments.
  • Controls downtime by performing daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance inspections; conducts safety compliance inspections and maintains records of production equipment; informs production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitors compliance.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains mechanical maintenance log/reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Requests components used in the repair or preventative maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Ensures company facilities, including buildings and grounds, are maintained to company standards.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs all work in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Keeps maintenance stock room and department in a tidy and orderly fashion.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Performs other job-related tasks/responsibilities as requested by the supervisor. Job duties may change as required by the needs of the company.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Competencies / Skill Qualifications

  • Understands machinery operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to routinely troubleshoot and repair equipment; diagnose mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Able to read electrical schematics.
  • Must be able to understand SOPs and follow work instructions.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have a full range of body movements, including use of hands for handling objects and equipment, and bending, reaching, and crouching.
  • Must have command of the senses — sight, hearing, touch, and smell.
