Job summary

IMTT in Geismar, LA seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for hands-on maintenance of terminal electrical equipment, instrumentation, and related systems. You will record maintenance activities, troubleshoot issues, and support operations. This non-exempt, hourly role requires flexibility for after-hours, weekend rotations, and travel as necessary. Must have TWIC and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least five years in an industrial setting; waiver possible with related background.
  • Experience in industrial chemical manufacturing/handling maintenance preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • TWIC credential for access to IMTT terminals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute and record periodic maintenance and repair on terminal electrical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair terminal equipment.
  • Assist Operations and Drumming Departments as needed.
  • Coordinate with other Maintenance Technicians and Departments.
  • Participate in terminal emergency response and wear PPE including respirators.

Job description

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician position is responsible for communicating effectively with internal customers and outside service providers and suppliers. Providing maintenance services to internal customers and executing site preventative maintenance activities. Supporting capital construction and commissioning activities.


Responsibilities
  • Plan, execute and record periodic maintenance and repair on terminal electrical equipment and instrumentation in a computerized maintenance program.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on all terminal equipment.
  • Assist the Operations and Drumming Departments as required.
  • Coordinates with other Maintenance Technicians and other Departments.
  • Capable of participating in the terminal emergency response organization and wearing an SCBA and other chemical PPE.
  • Wear appropriate PPE for required task, and safely perform job duties.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support on a routine call rotation and occasionally as job duties demand
  • Drive a company vehicle.
  • Depending on the E&I Maintenance Technician position being filled- may operate heavy equipment.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least five years of experience in an industrial setting. This requirement can be waived by IMTT depending on educational background and/or other occupational experience.
  • General experience in an industrial chemical manufacturing/handling maintenance setting.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT's terminal locations.

Hours of Work
  • Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday.
  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Employees are scheduled to work assigned shifts within a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. All hours worked must be accurately recorded, and overtime is paid in accordance with FLSA and company policy.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment as well as the outside environment where temperatures routinely reach 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The job requires strenuous activities and heavy lifting in an outdoor environment. Incumbent must walk rough terrain, climb stairs and ladders on 80-foot-high tanks and lift 50 pounds on a routine basis.
  • Ability to perform climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling and moderate lifting.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, over water and not be afraid of heights.
  • Ability to wear and use a respirator.
  • The large scale of the operation and the extensive layout of the facility require that the applicant have the ability to walk and stand on uneven terrain, to climb stairs and ladders, and traverse inclines: uphill, downhill or mixed. Furthermore, because the facility and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the applicant must be able to ingress and egress in foreseeable emergencies. The applicant must be able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
