Job summary

Canopy by Hilton Ithaca is seeking a maintenance technician to help keep all hotel spaces in good repair, including guest rooms, meeting spaces, restaurant areas, and exterior grounds. You will perform plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC tasks, follow safety protocols, and maintain logs while supporting the Chief Engineer on maintenance programs.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, technical training in maintenance, and 2+ years in related hotel maintenance or customer service

Qualifications

• Maintenance knowledge and ability to perform routine repairs.
• Ability to read labels, understand safety data sheets, and communicate problems clearly.
• Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain guest rooms, meeting space, restaurant and other hotel areas.
• Follow safety precautions and inspect for discrepancies.
• Perform plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC tasks as needed.
• Update maintenance logs and assist in preventive maintenance programs.
• Coordinate with inspectors to ensure code compliance and safety.
• Support the Chief Engineer in administration of maintenance activities.

Job description

Summary

Assists in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure of the hotel in good repair to include Guest Rooms, Meeting Space, Restaurant and all other areas of the hotel.

Job Duties

• Ensures observance of safety precautions.


• Performs inspection and reports discrepancies.


• Maintains pressure boilers, electrical equipment, lifting and power distribution.


• Performs minor fans and air-conditioning repairs.


• Performs minor electrical and mechanical repairs to equipment throughout the hotel.


• Performs rough carpentry work,drywall and painting repairs.


• Performs routine plumbing repairs, including installation of toilet, sinks, and other hardware & fixtures, and laundry/kitchen equipment.


• Updates engineering log during assigned shift.


• Assists Chief Engineer in administration of an on-going preventive maintenance program for equipment and guest rooms.


• Assists in administration of special franchise maintenance programs. Reviews maintenance problems, complaints and work orders to prioritize and schedule work assignments.


• Coordinating with local health, safety, fire, and building inspectors to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.


• Performs preventive maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis as per brand specific standards.


• Completes maintenance logs and follows the tracking system.


• Maintains the building exterior if not serviced by a contractor (i.e., snow removal, lawn care, painting).


• Additional duties may be added at any time at the discretion of management.

Skills/Qualifications

Educational/Vocational Preparation:

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred; Technical school training in maintenance and related field preferred


• Previous hotel experience preferred; however, ability gained through 2+ years related employment (customer service) or on-the-job training may substitute for actual Front Desk experience.

Physical Demands:

• Requires ability to stand/walk the entire shift.


• Requires ability to perform light to medium physical labor which includes lifting, bending, reach, stretching, climbing (ladders), pushing, and pulling.


• Requires ability to communicate orally and in writing with maintenance/hotel staff/guests.


• Requires ability to lift 50+ lbs. frequently,
