Job summary

International Paper in Bay Minette, AL is seeking a Maintenance technician for 12-hour rotating shifts (7AM–7PM and 7PM–7AM) on a full-time, hourly basis. The role covers preventive and emergency maintenance across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting PLC-driven controls, reading schematics, replacing components, and collaborating with production teams to keep operations safe and efficient.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules, policies and practices.
• Perform preventive maintenance such as lubricating, measuring wear and aligning components.
• Perform emergency/breakdown maintenance to support plant operations.
• Test electrical circuits with multimeters (DC/AC).
• Read electrical diagrams and wiring schematics.
• Exchange motors, gearboxes, belts, and related components with proper alignment.
• Understand PLC-related limits and proximity switches.
• Troubleshoot AC/DC drive systems to identify faults.
• Diagnose hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Operate conveyors and related equipment.
• Use hand tools (grinders, drills, Metabo, reciprocating saws).
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and communicate with internal customers.

Job Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules, policies and practices.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities such as lubricating, measuring wear, measuring positions, repositioning components and observing operations to determine proper functions.
• Perform emergency/breakdown maintenance as necessary to support plant operations.
• Use multi‑meter(s) to test electrical circuits, components, etc. using DC or AC voltage.
• Read and understand electrical block diagrams and wiring schematics.
• Exchange motors, gearboxes, sheaves, sprockets, belts, chains, etc. with proper alignment upon assembly.
• Understand functions of limit and proximity switches and their effects on PLCs.
• Troubleshoot AC and DC drive systems to determine cause of faults or failures.
• Diagnose hydraulic systems controlled by switches or PLCs.
• Diagnose pneumatic systems from solenoids, switches, valves, etc.
• Operate conveyor systems and related equipment.
• Use hand tools such as grinders, drills, Metabo, reciprocating saws, etc.
• Be self‑motivated and follow through to completion with assigned responsibilities.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in respect to the “5‑S Program.”
• Communicate openly and effectively with internal customers in the facility to maintain strong working relationships between production and maintenance employees.
