Job summary

Oldcastle Infrastructure in Avon, CT is seeking a qualified maintenance mechanic for an industrial steel fabrication and manufacturing environment. The role focuses on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment to keep systems safe and productive.

You will read diagrams and manuals, install and calibrate automation devices (PLCs, sensors, actuators), and maintain records of repairs and inspections.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safety protocols including lockout/tagout and arc flash.
  • Post-secondary education in industrial maintenance or related field, or 5+ years experience.
  • Experience with welding and metal fabrication equipment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and independent diagnostic skills.
  • Proficient with OEM parts research.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Mig welding and steel cutting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Repair or replace defective parts and systems, using knowledge of automation and mechanical principles.
  • Install, configure, and calibrate automation systems including PLCs, sensors, actuators, and control devices.
  • Conduct inspections and tests to identify problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production to address maintenance issues quickly.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and PMs.
  • Stay updated with advancements in automation technology through ongoing training.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and efficiency.
  • Coordinate work plans with Shop Foremen and Management.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate in this role will perform a wide range of duties in an industrial Steel Fabrication and Manufacturing environment. This maintenance mechanic will be responsible for ensuring all equipment is operating safely and efficiently by completing preventative maintenance requirements, repairing equipment, following diagrams, reading operations manuals, troubleshooting malfunctions, coordinating with external vendor support, maintaining records, and organizing spare parts/tools.

Job Responsibilities
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including lockout/tagout, arc flash safety, and other relevant safety measures, to ensure a safe working environment
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with automation systems, electrical components, mechanical equipment, and hydraulic systems
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems, utilizing knowledge of automation, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles
  • Install, configure, and calibrate automation systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, actuators, and other control devices
  • Conduct inspections and tests on machinery and equipment to identify potential problems and implement corrective actions proactively
  • Collaborate with production personnel and management to address maintenance issues promptly and efficiently
  • Document maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance
  • Stay updated with advancements in automation technology, electrical systems, mechanical engineering, and hydraulic systems through ongoing training and professional development
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and performance
  • Coordinate work plans with Shop Foremen and Management
Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of industry safety protocols and procedures, including lockout/tagout, arc flash safety, hazardous material handling, hoisting and rigging, and other relevant safety measures
  • Post-secondary education in industrial maintenance, electrical/electronics, of 5 years related field experience
  • Experience with maintaining welding and metal fabrication equipment is strongly preferred
  • Strong technical skills in automation systems, electrical systems, mechanical components, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC drawings
  • Proficiency with independent troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with machinery and equipment
  • Strong computer skills to include OEM parts research
  • Experience in mig welding and steel cutting. Fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Experience with maintaining welding and metal fabrication equipment is strongly preferred
  • Kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching, and possibly otherwise compromising positions in order to access hard to reach machinery components
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
