You will support the Maintenance Manager with routine upkeep, preventive maintenance, and special projects to ensure a clean environment for animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED and experience in building or facilities maintenance.

Job DescriptionJob Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the daily upkeep, repair, and appearance of the shelter's buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position supports the Maintenance Manager in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, facility repairs, groundskeeping, and assisting with special projects as assigned.

Full-Time and Part-Time Available.

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with routine building and grounds maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general repair work.
• Perform groundskeeping duties such as mowing, weed control, landscaping, trimming vegetation, and maintaining outdoor areas.
• Assist with facility repairs, renovations, and improvement projects.
• Maintain shelter equipment, tools, and machinery in safe working conditions.
• Remove trash, debris, and other hazards from shelter property to ensure a clean and safe environment.
• Assist in setting up and moving equipment, materials, and supplies as needed.
• Identify maintenance concerns and report needed repairs to the Maintenance Manager.
• Follow established safety procedures and use proper protective equipment when performing maintenance tasks.
• Plan and complete assigned work activities according to supervisor instructions and organizational priorities.
• Support emergency facility needs and responds to urgent maintenance issues as required.
• Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate required.
• Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, groundskeeping, construction, or a related field .

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of tools, equipment, machinery, and materials commonly used in building and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and maintenance machinery.
• Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general repair techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, contractors, and the public.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to supporting the mission and animal welfare standards of the organization.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely handle maintenance equipment and tools.

Working Conditions

This position requires regular exposure to shelter environments, including animals, cleaning chemicals, noise, odors, and varying weather conditions. Employees must follow all shelter safety and animal handling policies and procedures.
