Job summary

Simmons Foods in Santa Fe, NM is seeking a maintenance technician to support equipment repair and preventative maintenance in our facility. You will troubleshoot, repair, and optimize equipment to meet production requirements, collaborating with engineers and vendors as needed.

The role requires familiarity with safety policies, LEAN principles, and the ability to lift heavy objects, work in extreme conditions, and pass fit tests.

Qualifications

  • Experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
  • Industry preference for poultry or food processing organization.
  • Minimum education: good command of English language, written and spoken.

Job description

Assist in equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures in the operation of the facility where employed.

Repairs, replaces, corrects or affects equipment as needed to ensure equipment operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements.

Consults with engineers and vendors as needed. Accomplishes layout work for each project as needed. Will be able to troubleshoot equipment.

Meets safety requirements in accomplishing responsibilities of this position complying with all policies or regulations set forth by Simmons or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicle, handling of food products, packaging, ingredients and any related items.

Participates as a member of the Team . Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives : Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives : This position description is intended to guide the activities of the person in this position and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person as to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.

Physical Activities : Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Must be able to manually lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, on feet for the entire shift. Must be able to work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty areas with a noise level above 90 decibels. Ability to pass a fit test, physical, and pulmonary (lung capacity) function test. H2S Monitor and full-face respirator.

Travel : NA

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) : Will use appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required.

Technical Experience : Must have experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.

Industry Experience : Preference for poultry or food processing organization.

Minimum Education: Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
