Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a full-time Buildings & Grounds Technician in Michigan to install, inspect, repair and maintain hospital machinery, equipment, furnishings and grounds under supervision of the Director and Supervisors.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent (vocational certificate), journeyman’s license within 6 months, and hands-on experience across HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry or related trades. A strong customer-service orientation is essential.

  • Journeyman's license in a mechanical trade must be obtained within 6 months of start.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanics; excellent customer service orientation.
  • Technical, vocational or on-the-job training in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting or engine repair; three years related building maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and/or replace components of plumbing and piping systems, including cleaning blocked drainage.
  • Maintain irrigation systems.
  • Do not perform new installation work.
  • Solder pipe to 3/4" trade size for replacement.
  • Repair and/or replace components of electrical systems (120V nominal or less).
  • Repair and/or replace components of ceilings, walls, floors, doors, and hardware.
  • Maintain cleanliness of grounds, buildings, drives and parking lots.
  • Maintain hospital equipment and furnishings; replace defective parts.
  • Weld and solder sheet metal and other metal products as required.
  • Record material and time using the department work order system.
  • Perform snow and ice removal; maintain safe conditions.
  • Be available for call-ins and on-call status during inclement weather and emergencies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Trinity Health Values.

Job description

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Accountability Objectives: Under the supervision of the Director and/or Supervisors of the Buildings & Grounds Department, the employee installs, inspects, repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical equipment, hospital furnishings and grounds.

Position Qualifications:
  • Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.
  • A. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational school certificate.
  • B. Licensure / Certification Journeyman's license in mechanical trade must be obtained within 6 months of start of position.
  • C Special Skill / Aptitudes Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanics. Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
  • D. Experience Technical, vocational or on-the-job training in at least three of the following: HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting or Engine Repair. Three years related working experience in building maintenance.
Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the repair and/or replacement of components of plumbing and piping systems, including the cleaning of blocked drainage systems.

  • Responsible for the repair and/or replacement of components of ceiling, wall, floor, door hardware and building hardware.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of grounds, buildings, drives and parking lots.
  • Will not be responsible for new installation work.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of hospital equipment and furnishings, and for the replacement of defective parts or unsafe or malfunctioning parts.
  • Responsible for the welding and soldering of sheet metal and other metal products as required.
  • Responsible for correct material orders and amount requested.
  • Utilize the department work order system to record time and material.
  • Responsible for snow and ice removal.
  • Maintains safe walking and driving conditions.
  • Cleans and maintains work areas in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Being available for \"call-ins\" and \"on-call\" status during inclement weather and for other emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland through performing behaviors consistent with the Trinity Health Values.
