This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has basic maintenance or mechanical knowledge and is interested in developing their skills in an industrial manufacturing environment.

The Maintenance Technician Assistant will work closely with and receive hands‑on training and mentorship from our experienced Maintenance Technician. The ideal candidate does not need to know everything on day one—we are looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, dependable, safety‑conscious, willing to learn, and comfortable working with hand tools and performing basic facility maintenance.

As skills and experience develop, this position will be given increasing responsibility for preventive maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, repairs, and facility maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be able and willing to:

  • Assist the Maintenance Technician with routine maintenance and repair of production machinery, equipment, and plant facilities.
  • Perform basic facility maintenance, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, hardware replacement, and general building repairs.
  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance on production machines, equipment, and facility systems.
  • Learn to identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues under the guidance of the Maintenance Technician.
  • Assist with diagnosing equipment problems, replacing components, testing repairs, and making basic adjustments.
  • Learn to read and understand equipment manuals, work orders, schematics, and maintenance instructions.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, material‑handling equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Assist with emergency or unscheduled equipment repairs as needed.
  • Learn and follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance or repairs.
  • Inspect equipment and facility areas for potential maintenance or safety concerns and report issues to the Maintenance Technician or appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with maintaining maintenance tools, supplies, parts, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Support facility and environmental activities, inspections, and projects as needed.
  • Participate in company safety initiatives and follow all established safety procedures.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Work cooperatively with production employees, supervisors, and other departments to support facility and equipment needs.
  • Perform other maintenance, facility, or operational duties as assigned by the Maintenance Technician, Plant Manager, or other members of the leadership team.
  • Perform all responsibilities in a safe and appropriate manner while maintaining acceptable levels of quality and efficiency.
Experience and Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic knowledge of general building, facility, mechanical, or equipment maintenance preferred.
  • Previous experience performing basic repairs, working with tools, automotive repair, construction, manufacturing, facilities maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Mechanical aptitude and an interest in learning industrial maintenance are strongly preferred.
  • Trade school, vocational training, or coursework in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC, or a related field is a plus but not required.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, or carpentry systems is a plus.
  • Must be willing and able to learn new maintenance skills through hands‑on training and mentorship.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Mechanically inclined with basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Comfortable working with common hand and power tools.
  • Willingness and ability to learn from an experienced Maintenance Technician.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Dependable and able to follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently once properly trained.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to recognize when an issue requires assistance from a more experienced Maintenance Technician or outside service provider.
  • Willingness to take on increasing responsibility as knowledge and skills develop.
Position Demands
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to bend, twist, turn, carry, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as required.
  • Ability to safely work from ladders or at heights when properly trained and using required fall‑protection equipment.
  • Ability to safely work around manufacturing machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Extended hours or overtime may occasionally be required during peak workloads, equipment issues, or special projects.
Schedule
