Job summary

Ryerson is seeking a Maintenance Tech to support plant and facilities maintenance in a manufacturing environment. You will work with the company system and preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability.

Responsibilities include repairing and maintaining processing equipment, coordinating outside services, and training operators on maintenance tasks, while upholding a safe work culture and adherence to schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, preferably steel processing.
• Knowledge of coil processing equipment and OSHA requirements.
• Proficiency with PLCs, electrical, mechanical, air, hydraulics, and blueprints.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage changing priorities.
• Physical ability to pass vision/hearing/mobility exam.
• Onboarding into an apprenticeship program is part of the process.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain plant equipment daily, including processing, material handling, overhead cranes, and building repairs.
• Promote a safe work environment and follow maintenance schedules.
• Complete preventive maintenance programs on time.
• Train and supervise operators on daily maintenance tasks.
• Respond to unscheduled breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate outside maintenance and order parts as needed.
• Other duties may be assigned as required.

As a Maintenance tech at Ryerson, you will be responsible for a wide range of activities in overall plant and facilities maintenance. Additional duties will also include but are not limited to working with the company computer system and preventive maintenance programs.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain plant equipment in an efficient manner on a daily basis including processing equipment, material handling equipment, overhead cranes & building repairs.
• Promote & demonstrate a safe work environment
• Comply to maintenance schedule & completion of preventive maintenance programs
• Training & supervision of operators on daily maintenance tasks for equipment
• Ability to react to unscheduled breakdowns with urgency. Help to eliminate machine downtime
• Coordinate outside maintenance services as required
• Order parts as required to keep equipment operating in a safe/efficient basis
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum 3-5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably steel processing
• Knowledge of coil processing equipment (cut-to-length & slitters)
• Knowledge of OSHA requirements regarding equipment.
• Proficient with PLC's, electrical, mechanical, air, hydraulics & blue prints
• Preventive maintenance programs
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities and multiple tasks
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
