Job summary

BlueScope Coated Products in Marietta, GA, seeks a Maintenance Team Lead to safely perform emergency and preventive repairs on plant machinery. You will analyze electrical and mechanical faults, coordinate with the Production Supervisor during breakdowns, and use resources efficiently to minimize downtime.

The role requires strong problem-solving, PLC experience, and the ability to work physically demanding shifts up to 12 hours. Safety and quality standards are prioritized.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Technology Diploma, Trade Certification, or 5+ years of Industrial Mechanic/Electrician PLC experience.
• Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge.
• Proficient communication skills – explain complex electrical issues clearly.
• Must perform physically demanding work including heavy lifting.

Responsibilities

• Perform emergency and preventive repairs to plant machinery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Respond to production supervisor during emergencies.
• Utilize manpower and equipment to complete repairs promptly.
• Maintain clean and safe maintenance areas and practice LOTO safety.
• Manage maintenance inventory and report stock levels.
• Enter and complete work orders in the system as directed.
• Communicate with Production and Quality Control to resolve issues.

The Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for safely performing emergency and preventative repairs to plant machinery and infrastructure.

The Maintenance Team Lead responds to the needs of the production supervisor in the event of an unplanned failure on the production line.

The Maintenance Team Lead effectively utilizes manpower and equipment to complete all repairs in a timely manner, thereby minimizing non-productive hours and enhancing customer satisfaction.

Key Focus Areas

• Responsible for safely performing emergency and preventative repairs to plant machinery and infrastructure.
• Responsible for advanced troubleshooting of plant mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Responsible for responding to the needs of the production supervisor in the event of an emergency breakdown.
• Effectively utilizes manpower and equipment to complete repairs in a timely manner.
• Responsible for the cleanup of Maintenance and work areas where repairs are performed.
• Responsible for the safe and prudent use of company equipment and tools.
• Also, ensures a safe work environment by utilizing Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and reporting any unsafe condition.
• Responsible for the inventory of maintenance supplies.
• Informs the Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Planner when supplies have been removed from stock and require replenishment.
• Provides ordering information for replenishment of stock.
• Responsible for utilizing the Work Order system both in entering work orders and completing work orders, as directed by the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Planner.
• Reports to the Maintenance Manager or Production Supervisor during off-shifts and weekends.
• Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place at BCP.
• Communicates daily with internal personnel from Production and Quality Control to assist in resolving problems and achieving company goals.
• Other duties as assigned.

Foundational Experience Required Qualifications & Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Hold a Technology Diploma, Trade Certification or a minimum of five years of experience as an Industrial Mechanic and/or Electrician PLC and basic drives experience
• Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge
• Proficient communication skills – particularly, the ability to explain complex electrical issues.
• Must be able to perform physically demanding work, such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, and bending for extended periods of time.

Desired Qualifications:

• Metals, coating, roll forming or industrial maintenance experience
• PLC experience, preferably Allen Bradley such as SLC 500, RSlogix 5/500/5000, PLC5, ControlLogix, Micrologix, and Panelview systems

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrates strong computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and use new systems.
• Demonstrates strong practical aptitude in diagnosing and resolving equipment issues; able to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
• Good, professional communication skills
• Ability to learn processes, equipment specifications, and company standards through active use of resources, manuals, training, policies, and collaboration with colleagues.
• Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts
• Ability to pass a background check and drug test as a condition of employment

Work Environment

The employee may be required to enter areas that are near moving mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate and may require the use of hearing protection. The employee will be required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when accessing certain manufacturing areas.
