Job summary

Crothall Healthcare is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for the VCU Community Memorial Hospital on the day shift. The role leads the maintenance department, applying strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to keep facilities safe and compliant.

The supervisor coordinates staff, schedules, and vendor work, while managing inventory and ensuring quality control. A healthcare background and supervisory experience are highly preferred.

Qualifications

• Supervisory experience in healthcare is preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
• Experience with computerized work order systems is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Associate degree preferred; MS Office proficiency expected.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and control maintenance department activities.
• Maintain workflow and quality standards; ensure timely completion.
• Manage inventory and initiate requisitions as needed.
• In absence of Director/Asst Director, assume full department responsibilities.
• Monitor staff performance using reports and metrics.
• Train and mentor new employees; provide ongoing guidance.
• Prepare performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
• Oversee preventative maintenance with vendors; approve payments.
• Serve on the facility's fire response team.

Job Summary

The Supervisor leads all aspects of and coordinates activities of the maintenance department working under the direction of the Director and or Assistant Director. Incumbent is guided by thorough knowledge of plant operations and maintenance methods, techniques, procedures, principles of engineering, applicable governmental codes and regulations, and operation and use of departmental equipment and supplies; knowledge of principles of management, and procedures and policies of the department and facility. This is a day shift position.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and controls activities of maintenance department to keep staff engaged in maintaining, repairing, and renovating facilities
• Maintains flow and quality of work to assure timely completion of assigned workload and adherence to standards of quality control
• Maintains adequate inventory of materials, equipment, and supplies and initiates requisitions as needed
• In the absence of the Director and Assistant Director, assumes full responsibilities of the department, shares weekend duties with the other managers in the department
• Monitors and inspects employee work performance to assure performance standards are maintained through use of computer reports
• Orients and trains new employees and provides continuing guidance and on-the-job training to all assigned personnel
• Prepares performance evaluations for assigned personnel
• Monitors and coordinates a variety of preventative maintenance and building and property repair and improvement projects performed by vendors and contractors, inspects completed work and approves requests for payment regarding same
• Serves as a member of the facility's fire response team

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory experience, preferably in healthcare
• Must be knowledgeable in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems
• Previous experience with computerized work order system highly preferred
• Ability to meet the needs of the facility and make sound decisions, sometimes under stress
• Excellent interpersonal skills both written and verbal
• Associate degree preferred
• Proficient in the use of Windows based office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
