Job summary

Homewood Retirement Centers is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to coordinate and perform skilled repairs across machinery, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems at our facility.

You’ll be responsible for preventative maintenance, adherence to safety standards, and collaboration with other departments on heavy projects. The role requires multi-trade capability and the ability to lift heavy loads in a dynamic senior-care environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical maintenance training.
  • Three years’ experience in plant operations and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and related systems.
  • Organizational skills with ability to sequence tasks.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather and temperatures 0–100°F.
  • Ability to lift at least 70 pounds and perform physical tasks.
  • Ability to read blueprints and building plans.
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Code, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to direct work of others fairly and efficiently.
  • Capability to perform skilled work in two trades.

Responsibilities

  • Treats all information about residents, their condition, and family as confidential information.
  • Complies with established Corporate and Departmental policies, procedures, and maintains established standards and practices.
  • Adheres to a program of preventative maintenance that keeps equipment functioning properly and buildings in good repair.
  • Performs and oversees repairs to the electrical, HVAC systems, boilers, generators, and plumbing equipment. Coordinates workload among maintenance personnel.
  • Assists with and/or coordinates snow removal and groundskeeping as needed.
  • Responds promptly to requests from residents and staff regarding maintenance problems.
  • Responds immediately to all facility emergencies and is familiar with all emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Assists other departments in special projects and tasks of a heavy nature.
  • Rotates being on-call on off hours.
  • Performs other functions as directed by the Director.

Job Summary:

Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training in maintenance work, (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.).
  2. Three years’ experience in plant operations and maintenance.
  3. Thorough knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and allied machinery, and the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and communication systems would be helpful.
  4. Must have organizational skills and be able to do sequential events.
  5. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and temperatures normally ranging from 0 to 100 F.
  6. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, twist and turn frequently throughout the course of an eight-hour shift and able to lift and transfer at least 70 pounds.
  7. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and building plans.
  8. Basic knowledge of federal, state and local codes, Life Safety Code, OSHA and requirements of regulatory agencies.
  9. Ability to direct the work of others fairly and efficiently.
  10. Ability to perform skilled work in two trade areas.
Physical Requirements:

Must be able to constantly work on their feet during an 8-hour shift, bend, stoop, twist, and turn constantly throughout the shift in performing regular duties. Must be able to push and pull equipment and lift or transfer items weighing 70 pounds frequently throughout the shift. Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and temperatures ranging from 0 to 100 degrees F.
