Job summary

Darling Ingredients is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance staff at our Virginia plant. You will supervise daily activities, assign tasks, and ensure reliable operation of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.

You will develop and communicate short- and long-term maintenance plans, coordinate safety programs, and work with the Maintenance Manager to improve performance and meet production goals.

Qualifications

  • Requires 3–5 years of supervisory experience with industrial equipment.
  • Experience in Stick and TIG welding fabrication or 2 years of PLC troubleshooting/programming.
  • At least 1 year experience with computer maintenance programs including MS Word and MS Excel.

  • Coordinates teams to improve performance and procedures development.
  • Works with Maintenance Manager to coordinate all maintenance actions.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the maintenance staff, and any corrective or preventative maintenance procedures within the plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises and assigns the work of maintenance employees and inspects work for completeness.
  • Develops, supports and coordinates maintenance personnel by clearly communicating short and long‑term maintenance plan.
  • Coordinates or installs, inspects, repairs and maintains the electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems in the plant.
  • Ensures equipment and plant availability through effective and efficient scheduling of maintenance and repair.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and programs.
  • Coordinates teams for the purpose of improving performance and procedures development.
  • Works closely with Maintenance Manager to coordinate all maintenance actions.
  • Has thorough knowledge of the occupation hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
  • Improves safety and labor efficiencies by providing the proper tools and training.
  • Utilizes various analytical techniques to monitor, measure and prioritize improvements to process equipment to meet or exceed production goals and quality expectations.
  • Keeps all maintenance up‑to‑date and reports/records as required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience with industrial equipment and plant repair technology.
  • Required experience in Stick and TIG welding fabrication or 2 years of experience in PLC troubleshooting and/or programming.
  • At least 1 year experience with computer maintenance programs including MS Word and MS Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical degree or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in rendering preferred.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate maintenance plans to personnel and operators.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental procedures.
  • Teamwork skills working with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work environment involves exposure to high noise levels, strong odors, heat and cold, biohazardous conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical hazards, and use of potentially dangerous equipment. The role may require travel to off‑site locations.

Physical demands: Stands or sits for long periods; may need to move around inside or outside the work location; use hands to operate computers and machinery; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include clear vision at 20 inches, 20 feet, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
