Job description

Transylvania University invites applications for a Maintenance Supervisor. The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the preventative maintenance programs through management of department trades persons.

Essential Duties:
  1. Supervises maintenance personnel to perform troubleshooting and repair of building support and distribution systems including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, building interiors and exteriors, and other equipment as needed.
  2. Assists in the planning, development, and management of project work.
  3. Supervises and performs preventive maintenance on equipment, tools, and structures.
  4. Ensures completion of assigned maintenance repair tasks by monitoring work progress, inspecting work performance, and providing corrections of any deficiencies as necessary.
  5. Responsible for inventory control of supplies and equipment, storing supplies in a secure facility.
  6. Recommends purchases of new equipment.
  7. Ensures all auxiliary systems are operational to meet emergency needs.
  8. Provides properly maintained equipment to ensure safety and trains staff on its use.
  9. Enforces university rules regarding employee conduct and recommends disciplinary actions when appropriate.
  10. Provides staff training on hazardous chemicals, Safety Data Sheets, and Personal Protective Equipment.
  11. Collaborates with other supervisors to ensure OSHA compliance and safety standards.
  12. Works with others to remove snow and prepare campus walkways and parking lots.
  13. Schedules and oversees campus grease trap cleaning as required by authorities.
  14. Follows all safety procedures and oversees department fleet vehicle operations.
  15. Strives for continual improvement in all responsibilities.
Secondary Duties:
  1. Performs other duties as needed or assigned to support the Physical Plant Department.
  2. Supports campus events and promotes a positive university image.
  3. Manages responsibilities to meet financial goals.
  4. Tracks and approves employee timesheets.
  5. Develops effective work teams.
  6. This position involves hands-on work.
  7. Prepares employee performance evaluations annually and mid-year.
