Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Co. is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for our Hostess Manufacturing Plant in Emporia, Kansas. This role will supervise and train maintenance staff, plan and direct maintenance activities across a 2nd shift (3pm-11pm), ensuring equipment reliability, quality, and uptime.

You will lead problem solving, PM programs, and documentation, collaborate with site leaders, and oversee timekeeping and payroll processes—while remaining flexible for off-shift or weekend work as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of relevant experience supervising technical/maintenance individuals.
• Demonstrated experience teaching and leading others.
• 2 years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong technical and mechanical ability, including problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide problem solving expertise and root cause analysis to Operations.
• Execute predictive and preventative PM programs.
• Direct and deploy technical resources to repair or maintain equipment.
• Build mastery level skills in technicians and equipment owners, and basic troubleshooting.
• Ensure technical documentation, PMs, and spares for department equipment and systems are identified and in place.
• Create PMs and SOPs to properly maintain equipment and enable resources to execute work.
• Provide technical guidance to technical resources within a department.
• Collaborate with Area Leaders, Process Engineers, and Coordinators to maximize sanitation and startup effectiveness and efficiency.
• Administrator of timekeeping, attendance tracking, and payroll approval processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.

Your Opportunity as a (Technical) Maintenance Supervisor

Supervise and train maintenance personnel in the upkeep of existing equipment and the installation of new equipment. Plan and direct engineering and maintenance activities for a work shift. Focus on meeting standards for quality, productivity, downtime, and defects.

Work Arrangements

100% on-site, 2nd Shift, 3pm-11pm. Flexibility required. Willingness to work off shift (including nights, weekends, and/or holidays) and flow to the work as needed.

In This Role You Will

Minimum Requirements

What We are Looking For:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1 year of relevant experience supervising technical/maintenance individuals
• Demonstrated experience teaching and leading others
• 2 years of industrial maintenance experience
• Strong technical and mechanical ability, including problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities

Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
• Prior experience in food manufacturing
• Project management experience
