Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor in Bay City, TX to lead the fleet maintenance team. You will plan, assign, and oversee preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel and heavy equipment, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while driving productivity and cost control.

You will coach shop personnel, conduct daily huddles, perform inspections, manage parts and inventory, and coordinate with other departments to keep operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Proven ability to supervise and coach a maintenance team.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy trucks and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily planning and scheduling of all repair work to optimize productivity.
  • Supervise, coach, train, evaluate employee performance; participate in hiring decisions.
  • Conduct daily shop huddles and fleet walks.
  • Inspect outside repairs for safety/compliance; follow up as needed.
  • Track issues and perform Quality Control Inspections (QCI).
  • Plan repairs in M5 planner and procure parts for successful plans.
  • Analyze quality and effectiveness of work performed.
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters; road test equipment as needed.
  • Assist with inventory control and budgeting; ensure purchases stay within budget.
  • Maintain knowledge of engine, emission, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.

## Maintenance SupervisorApplylocations: 700 Avenue F,Bay City,TXtime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: R37842Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of a maintenance department and the supervision of a team responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of fleet. Follow up on repairs being made, perform repairs as needed and appraise performance of shop personnel. • Supervise, coach, train, evaluate employee performance or behavior; provide input into hiring, disciplinary action, terminations, compensation, and promotion decisions. • Conduct daily shop huddles and fleet walks. • Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure all work was properly completed in accordance with Company’s safety and compliance procedures and federal/state regulations; follow up where appropriate. • Track issues and conduct Quality Control Inspections (QCI’s). • Plan and schedule repairs in M5 planner and procure all parts for successful plan. • Analyze the quality and effectiveness of the work performed. • Oversee repair diagnostics on more complex matters. • Conduct road test on equipment as necessary. • Assist with inventory control system to ensure necessary equipment and part levels are maintained and purchases are within budget. • Review and approve expenses that are within approval level; refer larger expenses or major repairs to manager. • Maintain knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on heavy equipment and vehicles used by Company, both on site and on the road. • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner. • Manage related administrative matters for team, including payroll, employee records, records of all preventive and corrective maintenance performed, recording of all information into Company maintenance software. • Maintain open communication with other departments and leadership to ensure fluid and effective operations. • Assist in preparation and submittal of budget. • Introduce departmental goals and performance objectives established by District and Corporate leadership. • Ensure the cleanliness of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs. • Conduct and/or attend periodic driver/safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote morale, productivity, and efficiency. • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned. **Requirements:**• High School diploma or GED. • Valid Driver’s License. • Three (3) or more years of heavy diesel truck maintenance experience. • One (1) or more years of lead technician or supervisory experience. • Microsoft Office experience. **Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :**• Ability to supervise, coach, counsel, discipline, and train employees . • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. • Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity, trust, and maintain confidentiality . • Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a fast-paced, team environment. • Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documents. • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines. • Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects. • Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example: two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing. • Ability to make simple and repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. • Ability to judge the distance between equipment and an object. • Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement. • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other related state and federal regulations. • Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles. • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques. • Full set of hand tools required. • Knowledge of welding, compactor repair, air brake inspection, vehicle inspections. **Working Conditions:**The Maintenance Supervisor may work in various weather conditions. May be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells, such as exhaust fumes, gasoline, diesel fuel, and other dangerous and/or toxic substances or chemicals. Working around moving parts/objects, vehicles, machinery with moving parts. **Physical Demands**:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: • Ability to drive a pickup or heavy truck, equipped with a 5-7 speed manual shift transmission or automatic transmission, climbing in and out of the truck cab. • Employee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen, sit and stand. • Continuous riding in a vehicle, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling. • Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc. • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a step stool as necessary. • Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds as needed and maintain steady work pace.
