Summary
The Maintenance Superintendent coordinates and supervises all mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance activities for equipment and machinery (Kilns, Mills, Crushers, Conveying systems, Heavy Mobile Equipment). This position supervises the execution of Mechanical Projects (Opex or Capex) in coordination with the Project Team and oversees a large maintenance department of 18 mechanics.
What You’ll Be Contributing
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Establish, communicate, and assign job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within the Maintenance Department.
- Evaluate performance and recommend merit increases and promotions.
- Improve job performance through motivation, goal‐setting, and feedback.
- Collaborate, coordinate, and report progress on maintenance projects and priorities with other personnel.
- Review maintenance plans, schedule all mechanical activities, and supervise mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance activities (daily and outage).
- Investigate and resolve unusual problems or difficulties in maintenance projects (troubleshooting).
- Recommend equipment modifications to plant management.
- Obtain, coordinate, and supervise the work of contractors.
- Meet with vendors regarding new maintenance equipment and supplies needed for maintenance responsibilities and projects.
- Specify engineering data and solicit competitive pricing on major equipment and parts in coordination with the Project Team.
- Coordinate with storeroom personnel concerning the number of supplies and parts needed for maintenance activities.
- Compile records and data regarding maintenance projects and prepare reports for management.
- Ensure maintenance personnel comply with plant and MSHA safety rules and regulations.
- Participate in and conduct regular safety meetings & training sessions.
- Assist in developing the annual budget and implementing the approved budget.
- Ensure proper training is conducted for new and existing department employees.
- Participate in the On Call Supervisor rotation to provide 24/7 maintenance support.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
To Succeed In This Position, You Will Need
- Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Minimum 4 year Bachelor's Degree in mechanical, electrical, or a closely related engineering field (or equivalent education and experience).
- Minimum 7 years of experience in related maintenance functions with supervisory responsibilities, preferably in a cement or related industry.
- Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems with close attention to detail.
- Ability to perform, organize, and prioritize work independently.
- Ability to lead, direct, and manage organizations, programs, and people.
- Knowledge of all equipment and machinery used in the plant.
- Knowledge of MSHA safety regulations.
- Knowledge of maintenance techniques and repair procedures on general types of industrial equipment.
- Knowledge of maintenance techniques and repair procedures for cement production equipment.
- Knowledge of welding operations, tool and die manufacture, machine shop operations, millwright work, steel fabrication, and pipe fitting.
- Design and drafting skills for structural steel, piping, general fabrication, and equipment layout; ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of construction techniques for different building types such as concrete block, wood, and steel construction.
- Ability to work from general policies and objectives established by plant management.
- Ability to seek clarification or interpretation of organizational policy from the maintenance manager.
