IN DEMAND Recruitment & Consulting Inc. is currently recruiting for a MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT for our Lyons, KS client.

Our client, a leading producer in the industrial minerals sector, is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent to provide strategic and hands‑on leadership across all maintenance operations within a large‑scale processing facility. This position is responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, optimizing maintenance programs, and supporting safe, efficient production in a continuous mining and processing environment.

The ideal candidate is a proactive maintenance leader with deep technical expertise, strong organizational and people‑management skills, and a passion for driving preventive and predictive maintenance excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership and direction to all maintenance functions, including mobile equipment (loaders, dozers, haul trucks), stationary process systems (crushers, conveyors, mills), hoists and shafts, plant utilities, and support facilities.
  • Oversee multi‑shift maintenance teams (mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation) ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality work performance.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs, incorporating reliability‑centered maintenance principles and best practices.
  • Lead and enforce all safety, health, and environmental programs, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Partner with operations leadership to prioritize maintenance activities aligned with production goals and asset utilization targets.
  • Reduce unplanned downtime and eliminate repeat failures through root cause analysis, data‑driven problem solving, and technical training.
  • Manage annual maintenance budgets, control expenditures, and drive cost optimization initiatives without compromising safety or reliability.
  • Supervise storeroom and procurement functions, ensuring accurate inventory levels, supplier performance, and spare parts availability.
  • Plan and execute capital and major maintenance projects, including equipment upgrades, installations, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Promote a positive labor relations climate, fostering collaboration, accountability, and skill development within the maintenance workforce.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred; equivalent technical experience considered.
  • 10+ of progressive maintenance and reliability experience, including 7+ years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • 5+ of maintenance leadership in a mining, minerals, or heavy industrial environment (underground mining experience highly preferred).
  • Demonstrated expertise in CMMS systems, work order management, and maintenance planning/scheduling.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate teams across all shifts.
  • Proven success driving reliability improvements, implementing maintenance KPIs, and achieving measurable performance outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and planning skills; adept at balancing long‑term strategies with day‑to‑day operations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be capable of working in an active mining and processing environment, including exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and noise.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and use PPE as required.
  • Position requires pre‑employment physical, drug screening, and background check.

Target Candidate Profile:
Seeking a hands‑on maintenance leader or mine engineer with a strong mechanical foundation and proven experience in mining operations. Underground mining expertise is highly preferred, along with the ability to lead reliability, safety, and maintenance excellence in a demanding industrial environment.
