Job summary

State of Nebraska's Department of Administrative Services in North Platte, NE seeks two Maintenance Specialists I to perform skilled trades and preventive maintenance at the Craft State Office Building. Work Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm with on-call as needed, supporting building operations and safety.

The position requires an associate degree or equivalent vocational training in construction, HVAC or related trades; preferred certifications/licenses enhance eligibility.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction/HVAC/welding; experience may substitute.
• Preferred: certification/diploma in maintenance trades; licensure in applicable fields; EPA refrigerant license.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, groundskeeping and other skilled trades tasks.
• Schedule and perform preventive maintenance and repairs for equipment and systems.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance parts and stock.
• Carry out duties with or without supervision and other duties as assigned.

a member of a work crew, exercising a substantial degree of independence in planning and organizing their own work and performs related work as assigned.

Job Duties:

Completing repairs and preventive maintenance. Perform carpentry work, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, groundskeeping and other skilled trades work. Schedules and performs specialized preventative maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and machinery to ensure necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts. Maintain accurate inventory of all stock and commonly used maintenance parts. Completes duties as assigned with or without supervision. All other duties assigned within the scope of the classification.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Certification/Completion Diploma in one or more applicable Maintenance trade(s). Licensed in one or more applicable Maintenance Fields. Special License for EPA applications or refrigerant.

Work Shift:

Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm with some on call as needed

Other:

Must be able to pass a State Patrol background check. This position requires driving. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and Reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Skill in: the use of hand tools, power tools and building maintenance equipment; basic office and computer skills including competency in the use of email, building system applications; the operation and preservation of maintenance tools and equipment. Use of basic grounds keeping equipment.
