Job summary

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities seeks a Maintenance Specialist to construct, troubleshoot, repair and maintain state facilities across Alaska in locations such as Tazlina, Tok and Valdez.

The role requires knowledge of electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing and problem solving, with occasional field inspections and travel. A valid Alaska driver’s license is required for all applicants.

This position works semi-independently to construct, troubleshoot, repair and maintain State facilities within the guidelines of current State statutes and codes in the most efficient and economical manner possible.

Who we are looking for

To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

Electrical

: Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and systems, including their design, installation, testing, uses, repair, or maintenance.

Mechanical

: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installations, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Painting

: Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools to apply paint and other protective coating materials on drywall, wood, metal, glass, and other surfaces.

Plumbing and Pipefitting

: knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pepe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas chemicals, or sewage.

Problem Solving

: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgement to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations
