Job summary

Qualifications

  • Required: 2 years of experience in maintenance planning, aircraft routing, operations, analytics or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience accepted.
  • Fundamental knowledge of airline operations and aircraft maintenance.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and analyze complex data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to work weekends/holidays and non-standard shifts.

Role Summary

The Maintenance Router role is responsible for developing solutions to perform operational routing with the demands of the daily operation at Alaska Airlines (AS). As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve coordination with all NOC and system stakeholders in matters pertaining to the week’s aircraft routing. In addition, maintains strict standards of safety and compliance, and makes recommendations to improve a safe working environment to ensure maintenance operations are aligned with the airline’s overall business strategy and that our fleet remain operational.

Key Duties
  • Holds responsibility, authority, and decision-rights to stop the operation or ground aircraft for any safety or compliance related issue and elevate concerns to senior planners or leadership.
  • With limited direction from manager, work independently in operational routing and coordinating maintenance activities with operational groups.
  • Manages operational aircraft swaps and recovery routing to maintain optimal system performance
  • Make recommendations supporting solutions to maintain and optimize operational reliability.
  • Create, recommend and execute plans to avoid flight delays and cancellations.
  • Analyze aircraft change requests from various stakeholders, balancing operational needs with aircraft requirements.
  • Monitor daily flight activity and recommend best course of action for cancellations, upgrades, or downgrades that impact the fewest number of guests with the least negative impact to maintenance and the operation
  • Takes initiative to develop solutions to expeditiously facilitate the urgent completion of Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, Fleet Campaign Directives, and Engineering Orders.
  • Provide input to assist senior routers in scheduling required aircraft maintenance while swapping aircraft.
  • Plans, schedules, and communicates work priorities encompassing work in line aircraft maintenance stations.
  • Takes initiative to minimize aircraft downtime and maximizes schedule reliability by planning system-wide aircraft maintenance in response to changes in the operation.
    • Executes aircraft change requests.
    • Plans ground time night-of maintenance operations.
    • Executes basic routing functions to support maintenance activities with operational groups in response to routing, scheduling, or planning revisions.
  • Communicate routing decisions and priorities across operational groups.
  • Works with maintenance planning to balance station workload with capabilities and manpower, to ensure efficient aircraft turnaround.
Job‑Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 2 years of experience in maintenance planning, aircraft routing, operations, business analytics or aircraft and engine maintenance or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Fundamental knowledge of airline operations and aircraft maintenance.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Superior analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Good at multi-tasking and able to reprioritize responsibilities as priorities change.
  • Demonstrates the ability and passion to continuously look for ways to improve the daily operation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
  • Effective written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to make decisions in a real-time, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to achieve results with minimal guidance.
  • Able and willing to work weekends, holidays, and non‑standard shifts.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Airline industry experience.
  • Maintenance planning experience.
  • Knowledge of aircraft maintenance procedures and FAA regulations.
  • Computer applications experience with TRAX, Visops, Vismaint, Aerostrat, Tableau, Microsoft SQL.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification.

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
