Job summary

State of Louisiana seeks a part-time maintenance specialist for Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge, LA. You will perform HVAC system maintenance, minor construction, plumbing and electrical tasks, and grounds upkeep across the museum complex.

The role may involve assisting with exhibits, events, and projects at other State Museum locations, with a rotating schedule and possible evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Qualifications

• One year of experience or training in building trades, maintenance, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
• Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or a combination of these courses.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily operations and maintenance for Capitol Park Museum HVAC systems, including lubrication and filter changes.
• Carry out minor construction and building repairs: painting, sheetrock, flooring, doors and windows repairs.
• Perform minor plumbing repairs and installations: piping, soldering, fixtures, and drain work.
• Perform minor electrical maintenance: conduit, wiring, receptacles, switches, and HVAC wiring changes.
• Maintain grounds: cleaning, mowing, weed-eating, and debris removal.
• Oversee outside contractors to ensure compliance with contracts and standards.

Job description

This is a part-time position located at the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge, LA.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of general repairs, conducting maintenance to museum buildings, interiors, and exteriors. This position assists with exhibits construction, installation, and maintenance, and may assist with events and projects at other State Museum locations.

The Louisiana State Museum’s collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our state’s rich and diverse history and culture.

One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Job Duties:

• Performs daily operations and scheduled maintenance at Capitol Park Museum (CPM) HVAC systems to include lubrication, replacing and repairing service lines, drains, traps, bearings, filter replacement and cleaning. Removal and replacement of motors, valves, coils, service lines, and all hardware as needed. Checking the temperature and humidity throughout the museum complex and keeping records.
• Performs minor construction and building repairs to include installation, finishing, painting of sheetrock and paneling. Performs installation and repairs of wood, tile, marble, and slate flooring and walls. Completes minor repairs to doors, door frames, and windows, window frames, which includes removal, cutting, and installing glass panes.
• Performs minor pluming repairs and installations to include pipe threading, soldering, and glueing on water supply and wastewater systems. Performs repairs to all plumbing fixtures such as sink faucets, toilets, tube valves throughout the museum, including drain repair and stoppages, and any other plumbing as needed.
• Performs minor electrical maintenance of electrical systems to include installations and removal of conduit, electrical wiring, receptacle and switch replacement. Performs removal and installation of wiring to HVAC system motors, condensers, fans, and blowers on change outs.
• Performs all ground maintenance and upkeep of grounds. Cleans grounds, gardens, and water features; collects litter, debris, and trash; mows, weed eats, edges, and blows grounds.
• Oversees outside contractors to ensure compliance with contracts, performance to industry standards, all state and municipal codes on all museum projects.
• Performs and completes other duties as assigned.

Position-Specific Details:

• Location: Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge, LA
• Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12-month period. **Starting Hourly Pay varies, depending on experience.**
• Work Schedule: This is a part-time position that will work a rotating schedule. This position may be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. This position may be required to travel.
