Job summary

NAES Corporation is seeking a Maintenance Planner for the Nacogdoches Generating Facility in Cushing, Texas. The role focuses on maintenance and outage planning for the 105 MW biomass plant, coordinating outages, materials, and schedules to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.

The Maintenance Planner will utilize Maximo for work orders, track progress with MS Project, and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, OEMs, and vendors.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial technology, or a related technical field preferred.
• Strong maintenance planning, outage coordination, procurement, or supervisory experience within power generation.
• Solid knowledge of power generation equipment, including boilers, steam turbines, generators, fuel-handling equipment, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Experience with CMMS platforms such as Maximo; SAP or similar ERP experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Nacogdoches Generating Facility, located in Cushing, Texas, approximately 20 miles northwest of Nacogdoches, is a 105 MW biomass power plant utilizing a bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler and steam turbine generator (STG). The facility provides efficient, reliable generation while supporting regional energy needs and sustainable power production.

Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Planner supports safe, reliable plant performance through effective maintenance and outage planning at the Nacogdoches Generating Facility. This position coordinates planned outages, preventive maintenance, work schedules, contractors, materials, and critical spare parts while managing Maximo activities and working closely with Operations, Maintenance, OEMs, and vendors to improve reliability and minimize downtime.

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Planner will include the following primary functions:

Maintenance & Outage Planning

• Develop and manage maintenance and outage plans for the BFB boiler, steam turbine generator, fuel-handling systems, electrical equipment, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Coordinate planned outages from scope development through execution and closeout, including schedules, work priorities, labor and contractor requirements, materials, work packages, and key milestones.
• Develop and maintain outage schedules using Microsoft Project, coordinating Operations, Maintenance, contractors, OEMs, and vendors while tracking progress and communicating schedule changes.
• Lead maintenance and outage planning meetings to establish priorities, identify resource and schedule constraints, coordinate work activities, and ensure readiness for safe and efficient execution.
• Manage preventive and predictive maintenance and inspection programs based on equipment condition, run hours, OEM guidance, outage opportunities, and reliability objectives.
• Establish maintenance priorities and contingency plans for forced outages and equipment failures to support timely recovery and minimize downtime.
• Support reliability improvements through equipment performance analysis, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), and corrective actions.

CMMS, Materials & Vendor Coordination

• Administer Maximo CMMS, maintaining work orders, preventive maintenance records, equipment history, outage work scopes, inspection data, inventory information, and maintenance metrics.
• Use CMMS data to identify trends, develop maintenance and outage scopes, optimize schedules, and support equipment reliability and plant performance.
• Manage critical spare parts and outage material requirements to ensure components, consumables, tools, and resources are available for planned and unplanned maintenance.
• Coordinate with OEMs, contractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain technical support, procure materials and services, schedule specialized work, and develop scopes for RFIs, RFPs, and bid packages.

Cost, Safety & Plant Support

• Support maintenance and outage budgeting, cost tracking, contractor coordination, and cost-effective work execution while maintaining safety and reliability requirements.
• Coordinate with Operations on equipment availability, isolations, LOTO, and return-to-service requirements during maintenance and outages.
• Support outage closeout, including work completion, documentation, schedule and cost review, lessons learned, follow-up work, and improvements to future maintenance plans.

Working Relationships

The Maintenance Planner reports to the O&M Manager and receives general direction from the Plant Manager. This position also coordinates with all plant personnel to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant and its related processes.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Maintenance Planner works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support plant operations and business needs and may also require callout availability. Depending on the position, on-call status may or may not apply.

Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $43.92 to $55.21 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Planning Expertise & Technical Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial technology, or a related technical field preferred; relevant industry experience, technical training, or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
• Strong maintenance planning, outage coordination, procurement, or supervisory experience within power generation or a similar industrial environment.
• Solid knowledge of power generation equipment, including boilers, steam turbines, generators, fuel-handling equipment, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate maintenance and outages from scope development through execution and closeout, including scheduling, contractors, resources, materials, and progress tracking.
• Experience analyzing equipment and maintenance data, identifying recurring issues, and applying preventive, predictive, and reliability-focused maintenance strategies.
• Proficiency with CMMS platforms such as Maximo for work orders, preventive maintenance, equipment history, inventory, and maintenance planning; SAP or similar ERP experience is a plus.
• Ability to develop and manage maintenance and outage schedules using Microsoft Project or similar scheduling tools.
• Working knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, including DCS and PLC-based controls; Emerson DCS experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of plant safety, LOTO, environmental requirements, and maintenance best practices, with effective communication and coordination skills.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
