Job summary

Smurfit WestRock in Florence, SC is seeking a Maintenance Planner to optimize production equipment availability by planning, scheduling, coordinating, and reporting repairs. You will work with maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient downtime and continuous improvement.

The role requires 5–10 years in pulp and paper, experience with MS Project/JDE, and strong safety and quality mindsets; supervisory experience is a plus. On-site position with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience in Pulp and Paper industry preferred.
• Experience in project management and planning, predictive and preventive maintenance.
• MS Project, JDE, Word and Excel experience preferred.
• Supervisory or management experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Screen incoming work orders, scope identification and planning requirements.
• Prepare job packages with detailed info for craftsmen.
• Review repairs under work order process and ensure documentation.
• Plan and schedule unit outages using MS Project.
• Organize outage work into an integrated schedule.
• Order parts and materials for planned repairs.
• Develop scopes of work, solicit bids, and coordinate contracts as needed.
• Operate within planning systems and pursue continuous improvement.
• Keep equipment bill of materials current in CMMS.
• Interface with operating departments and support safety/compliance.

The opportunity:

The Maintenance Planner provides for the effective use of personnel, materials, and machine downtime to maintain production equipment availability and performance at satisfactory levels through the planning, scheduling, coordinating, and reporting of repair activities. Planners report directly to the Planning Superintendent.

How you will impact WestRock:

• Take responsibility for the initial screening of incoming work orders, scope identification, determination of basic job requirements and planning requirements
• Prepare job packages for craftsmen with detailed information to facilitate efficient and safe work implementation
• Preview, audit, and review repairs under work order process
• Ensure appropriate documentation is completed at job completion
• Plan and schedule unit outages using Microsoft Project
• Take leadership role in organizing and reviewing outage work into one integrated schedule
• Specify and orders parts and materials needed for planned repair work
• Develop scopes of work, solicit bids, contract and coordinates work as needed
• Operate within WestRock’s planning systems, with a mindset of continuous improvement
• Keeps equipment bill of materials current in CMMS
• Interface with all operating departments
• Support and foster safety and environmental compliance

What you need to succeed:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, bachelor's degree is preferred
• 5-10 years of experience in Pulp and Paper industry is preferred
• Experience in the following areas: project management and planning, predictive and preventative maintenance programs
• JDE, MS Project, Word, Excel experience preferred
• Supervisory or management experience is preferred
