Job summary

Entergy Louisiana, LLC seeks a Maintenance Operator to operate and monitor power plant equipment on a rotating shift under a Plant Supervisor. You will perform rounds, lubrication, and safety tagging for maintenance, ensuring plant units run safely, reliably, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

You will progress through an Operational Skills Development Plan towards higher levels in Operations Technician roles, supporting environmental procedures and coordinating with teams to meet plant goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; relevant college degree or experience preferred.
  • Experience in process technology or instrumentation is desirable.
  • Ability to follow safety policies and environmental guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate power plant equipment.
  • Perform routine operator rounds and lubrication of rotating equipment.
  • Understand and follow LOTO procedures for maintenance activities.
  • Maintain boiler water chemistry and monitor plant systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment; perform preventative maintenance.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders (dispatchers, contractors).
  • Work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Adapt to temporary supervisor/contract administrator roles as required.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Responsible for performing operating functions which includes continuous monitoring of equipment, operating valves, understanding power plant systems, starting and stopping of equipment, isolating and restoring equipment for maintenance following a Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedure and monitoring boiler water chemistry
  • Uses elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in generating plants
  • Troubleshoot, identify, and make repairs to the plant equipment including performing preventative maintenance tasks
  • Applies knowledge and experience with principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems
  • Knowledgeable in and complies to environmental rules and regulations
  • Knowledgeable in and follows safety policies, practices and procedures
  • Participate in the Monthly Safety Meeting, and open to participation on the Safety Committee or the Awareness Team
  • Performs preventative maintenance activities which include simple electrical, instrument and mechanical work/inspection and repair
  • Interface / communicate with internal and external organizations/customers (dispatchers, directors, contractors, etc.)
  • During unit outages or other emergent work, step-up to Temporary Supervisor or Contract Administrator position with responsibility for other employees and/or contractors to provide contractor management, quality control, cost management and schedule management
  • Work a rotating shift
  • Work overtime at times when shift coverage is required due to unexpected circumstances
  • Be willing and able to work under unusual as well as normal working conditions pertaining to a power plant environment
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education:
  • High school diploma
  • Desired:
  • Process Technology/Instrumentation college degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum Experience
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in an operations or similar field, or entry level with a background in Process Technology or Instrumentation
Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of the elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in steam electric plants
  • Knowledge of the principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo-generators,pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems
  • The ability to lift 100 lbs
  • The ability to lift and carry 50 lbs
  • The ability to climb scaffolds, stairs and ladders
  • Must be Team Oriented and Self-Motivated
  • Must possess the initiative to perform task independently, provide timely and concise feedback upon request
  • Possess a winning attitude to achieve Departmental, Plant and Corporate Goals
  • Should possess basic computer knowledge to obtain the required skills needed to use the Entergy Fossil Applications Time and Labor (Electronic Timesheet Application) and AIMM (Maintenance Management System)
  • Knowledge of the elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in steam electric plants
