Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc is seeking an hourly Mechanical Maintenance professional for West Point Mill. You will perform primary millwright tasks, support safety programs, and operate in a multi-craft team to drive reliable equipment and uptime.

The role requires reading manuals and drawings, documenting repairs, and using BOM systems to source parts. Strong communication and shift flexibility are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Five years of relevant industrial experience at a journeyman mechanic level or equivalent.
• Two-year technical degree in mechanical technology or four years military experience.
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to work shift schedules.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all department safety programs.
• Work in a multi-craft role to achieve team results.
• Read and follow equipment manuals and drawings.
• Document repairs and inspections accurately.
• Use BOM and store parts; enter work results and complete work orders.
• Demonstrate rigging skills and fabricate repair parts as needed.

West Point Mill is seeking an hourly Mechanical Maintenance with the ability to provide primary millwright skills for the West Point Mill.

• Participate in all department safety programs.
• Flexibility to work in a multi-craft role and contribute to accomplishing results in a team- based environment.
• Good understanding of the types and application of equipment lubrication.
• Effective troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to read and understand equipment manuals & drawings.
• Ability to properly document repairs and inspections.
• Computer skills adequate to look up bill of materials & stores parts, enter work results, and complete work orders.
• Good working knowledge of rigging equipment and techniques.
• Ability to measure, lay out, and fabricate repair parts.

What you need to succeed:

For a Class 1 Helper:

• Five years of relevant industrial experience at a journeyman mechanic’s level, or
• Two-year technical degree in mechanical technology, or four years’ relevant technical military experience
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability and willingness to work shift work.

For a Class A Journeyman:

• Ten years of relevant industrial experience at a journeyman mechanics or electrician/instrumentation level - or
• Five years of relevant industrial or military experience and a two-year technical degree
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability and willingness to work shift work.

We offer a clear, structured path for career advancement with competitive pay:

• Class 1 Helper: $33.79/hour. Promotion to Class C possible within 9-13 months based on performance.
• Class C: $35.89/hour. Eligible for Class B after 6 months.
• Class B: $37.42/hour. Promotion to Class A after 12 months.
• Class A: $42.62/hour. Final step to Class AAA ($45.86/hour) based on tenure and qualifications.
• Total Progression Time: 2.25-2.5 years (27-31 months) from Class 1 Helper to Class A.
