Job summary

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Vehicle Operations facility in York is seeking a Maintenance Mechanical to support production by performing mechanical maintenance on automated equipment, troubleshooting breakdowns, and performing preventive maintenance. This role requires a journeyperson credential or equivalent experience, basic electrical knowledge, and strong reading of prints.

Shift options include 2nd or 3rd, with pay of $39.79/hr.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Card/7 years experience in troubleshooting, machine repair, toolmaking, or hydraulic/pneumatic mechanical systems.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic understanding of electricity and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and utilize machine prints/ layouts for hydraulics/pneumatics.
• Experience with machine alignment using precision instruments (metric or English).

Responsibilities

• Respond to breakdowns to minimize downtime and follow escalation processes.
• Perform production tasks as needed by the situation.
• Troubleshoot and perform mechanical maintenance on automated equipment.
• Carry out lubrication and welding repairs as required.
• Understand mechanical and hydraulic presses, laser cutting equipment, ovens and burner controls.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis to improve uptime and assist in TPM training.
• Follow safety practices and wear PPE; operate material handling equipment and CMMS to record work activities.

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Vehicle Operations facility in York is our final assembly plant. Employees at York also perform a variety of manufacturing operations, including fabrication, welding, polishing and painting and produce a wide range of current and replacement parts for all models. Join our team as a Maintenance Mechanical.

Prerequisites:

• Journeyperson Card (related to the job opening) and/or Seven years of applicable experience as a qualified machine repair person, toolmaker, or machine tool builder in troubleshooting, machine repair, tool making, machine building, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
• High School Diploma/GED Required.
• Have a basic understanding of electricity and electrical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to read and utilize prints of machine assembly, layouts, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Experience in performing basic machine alignment using precision instruments in either metric or English measurement systems.
• Have a good understanding of tool room equipment, operations associated with drilling, milling, surface grinding, and lathe operations.
• Experience in maintaining mechanical drives, presses, and basic welding.
• Must have basic understanding of PC's and basic PC skills.
• Must have good verbal communication skills.
• Must be a proven self-starter with a willingness to work in a team environment.

Job Duties:

• Support the production operation by providing immediate response to all breakdowns to minimize equipment downtime and follow all escalation processes as defined.
• Ability to perform production tasks as necessary or required by the situation.
• Troubleshoot and perform all required mechanical maintenance on automated equipment.
• Performs lubrication tasks as necessary.
• Performs welding repairs as necessary.
• Understanding of Mechanical and Hydraulic Presses.
• Understanding of Laser cutting equipment.
• Understanding of ovens and burner controls.
• Insure machine availability goals are met by participating in and organizing Root Cause Analysis activities to improve equipment up-time.
• Assists in training employees in production roles to perform simple maintenance tasks as associated with TPM.
• Understand Predictive Maintenance technologies in order to understand when they apply to problems and participate in utilizing them as deemed necessary.
• Wears communication device as deemed necessary.
• Actively participate in any Skills Training Program required.
• Lockout equipment to be maintained and follow all safety practices and procedures.
• Wears all required PPE for task being performed.
• Perform routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities.
• Utilize the CMMS to record and track work activities including time keeping, historical equipment repairs and work order/PM closures.
• Operates necessary material handling equipment to transport supplies to job and to make installations and repairs.
• Performs routine and customary material handling and housekeeping associated with the job.
• Instructs helper or apprentice and acts as leader on jobs as required.
• Must be able to work eight hours or more and work mandated overtime as required under the guidelines of the current Labor Agreement.
