Job summary

Magna Powertrain in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to diagnose, repair, and overhaul machines and hydraulic equipment. You will read blueprints, operate precision tools, and participate in preventive maintenance to keep presses and CNC equipment running safely and efficiently.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, journeyman preferred, and experience with CNCs, stamping presses, pneumatics, hydraulics, MIG and arc welding.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; journeyman preferred.
• Experience with machine maintenance and electrical work; heavy machine repair of presses.
• Knowledge of CNCs, stamping presses and related machinery.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical.
• Knowledge of MIG and Arc welding and use of cutting torches.
• Ability to read hydraulic and lube schematics and blueprints.
• Ability to operate maintenance machinery and precision measuring equipment.

Job Responsibilities

• Objective: Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls machines and hydraulic equipment. Works from blueprints, drawings or sketches. Performs layout and uses various tools and precision measuring instruments. Understands the function and operation of tool room machines. Adapts new methods, processes, materials and equipment.
• Scope: Includes all aspects and functions involved in the maintenance and repair of various machine along with both predictive and preventative maintenance aspects on all machines.
• Repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of CNC’s, building, presses and equipment throughout plants including electrical repair and PLC troubleshooting.
• Heavy machine repair of presses.
• Perform Preventive Maintenance on equipment.
• Install new equipment as required based on blueprints and layout schematics.
• Rebuild and/or refurbish equipment including CNC’s, presses, conveyors, feed systems and transfers.
• Responsible for the safety, cleanliness and orderliness of the Maintenance Department and at machines/equipment when performing work.
• Support and participate in division and department improvement initiatives through Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program, and sharing of knowledge, ideas, and/or best practices with co-workers.
• Assist the organization in implementation of MAFACT, including lean, standardized work and continuous improvement activities.
• Complete all required paperwork and computer tasks that are required for the position.
• Take initiative to always maintain and improve upon or facilitate overall safety by being proactive as a service provider to the people.
• Perform various 5S to equipment as required by MAFACT standards.
• Treats team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values.
• Member of Spill Team, attend annual training.
• Active participation in MAFACT Teams and activities as required.
• Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits Cost saving improvement suggestions, CIP’s.
• Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
• Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Reports unsafe conditions immediately to Manager/Supervisor/Leader.

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or G.E.D., Journeyman preferred.
• Five years minimum experience in area of machine maintenance and repair and electrical (heavy machine repair of presses).
• Knowledge of CNC’s, Stamping Presses and related machinery.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical.
• Knowledge & experience with MIG and Arc welding and use of cutting torches.
• Must be able to read hydraulic and lube schematics.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Ability to operate maintenance machinery such as Bridgeport, surface grinder, lathe and drill press and precision measuring equipment.
• Own tools needed for performance of maintenance functions.
• Able to communicate in English effectively (both written and oral).
• Must be willing to further education to improve skillset as required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Must be able to obtain man‑lift and hi‑lo permit.
• Must be able to obtain Confined Space certification.
• Must possess valid driver’s license.

Additional Skills

• Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions in English and correspondence such as safety rules and operating instructions. Ability to document forms as required by position. Able to communicate in English effectively (both written and oral).
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
• Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AS400 and ability to use bar code labeling system.
• Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Communication Skills: Ability to use active listening and communicate professionally.
