Job summary

RRD seeks an experienced maintenance technician for 1st shift (7am-3pm) to oversee junior staff, assign tasks, and ensure timely, quality work across electrical and mechanical systems. The role requires diagnosing equipment faults, repairing, and maintaining production lines and related machinery.

The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years hands-on experience in manufacturing maintenance, strong reading of schematics, and proficiency with hand/power tools and test equipment.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing production machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, overhauls, align and test complex equipment.
  • Knowledge of machinery diagnostics to distinguish mechanical/electrical failures.
  • Interpret complex drawings, sketches and wiring diagrams to isolate malfunctions.
  • Use hand and power tools and test equipment effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of junior staff and audit accuracy of work.
  • Assign maintenance tasks, monitor progress, meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Track maintenance costs, manage parts inventory and work orders.
  • Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load electrical lines, circuits and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment errors or failures and perform repairs.
  • Maintain production equipment and machinery including die cutters and presses.
  • Repair or reproduce parts using welders or machine tools as needed.
  • Perform building repairs and other duties; update shift schedules as required.
  • Coach, guide, and train junior mechanics and maintenance technicians.

Job Description
1st Shift: 7am-3pm
  • Provide oversight of work conducted by junior-level staff and/or review/audit work for accuracy
  • Assign maintenance tasks to staff, monitor progress, and ensure work is completed according to deadlines and quality standards.
  • Tracking maintenance costs, managing parts inventory as well as work orders effectively
  • Install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment
  • Perform electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting and repairs in response to equipment errors or failures
  • Maintain organization's production equipment
  • Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as die cutters, sheet-fed presses, inserting machines, folders, conveyor systems, bindery equipment etc. using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments
  • May repair or reproduce parts using welders or machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders or other machine shop equipment
  • Building repairs and other miscellaneous duties as assigned
  • May update and maintain shift schedules in the time and attendance system, as well as enter attendance transactions
  • Coach, guide, and train junior mechanics and maintenance technicians.
Qualifications
  • 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing production machinery in a manufacturing environment
  • Skill in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, testing, and maintaining complex equipment and machinery
  • Advanced knowledge of equipment and machine control bodes in sufficient depth to trace symptoms of equipment malfunction and distinguish mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic failures from those which are electrical or electronic
  • Ability to make precise adjustments for alignment, parallelism, and concentricity due to the continuing effects of malfunctions throughout the entire machine or equipment
  • Ability to perform precise measurements of air and fluid pressure and flow, and knowledge of the mechanisms used to convert such readings into measurable units
  • Ability to interpret complex multiview drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturers' specifications, and other technical material to isolate malfunctions in such devices as hydraulic pumps and motors, mechanical clamping devices, and electric or hydraulic axis drive and positioning systems
  • Advanced knowledge of construction and assembly techniques and the ability to manufacture replacement parts with complex configurations or assemble unique devices with unusual angular relationships
  • Knowledge of geometry, shop mathematics, and handbook formulas to provide for surfaces with interrelated dimensions and to calculate angles, clearances, fits, pressure, flow, and other parameters of interest
  • Task prioritization and workflow organization to direct daily maintenance priorities and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Knowledge and ability to anticipate and respond quickly to danger signs as they become evident through intricate warning systems to avoid loss of time and expensive equipment
  • Must have skill in the use of hand tools, power tools and test equipment needed to perform job effectively
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for long shifts, and climb ladders, stairs
  • Knowledge of skyjack lifts, navigating skywalks, catwalks, scaffolding and elevated platforms.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, HazMat, Lock Out Tag Out, NEC, etc.

The pay range for this role at the noted location is $29.29 to $43.50 per hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand‑by pay.
