Job summary

Cemex US is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic/Journeyman to maintain and repair industrial equipment, perform welding and fabrication, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems. You will support plant operations to keep equipment running safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, MSHA certification, 3–6 years of relevant experience, and proficiency with various tools and welding equipment. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety regulations (CEMEX, OSHA, MSHA) and wear PPE.
  • Maintain, repair, and rebuild industrial equipment; perform inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Carry out arc/gas welding, layout, pipefitting, and millwright tasks; fabricate parts per specs.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical problems; ensure equipment operates safely.
  • Replace bearings, align machinery, inspect power transmission, repair electrical circuits.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized; report hazardous conditions.
  • Mentor less experienced team members; complete inspections and maintenance reports.
  • Respond to emergency repairs and participate in major outages as needed.

ABOUT THE JOB

We’re looking for a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic/Journeyman to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing industrial equipment, performing welding and fabrication work, and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems. You will play a key role in supporting plant operations by ensuring equipment runs safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities
WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA regulations. Wear proper PPE and promote a safe work environment at all times.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain, repair, and rebuild industrial equipment. Perform inspections, diagnose issues, and complete preventative maintenance.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Carry out arc/gas welding, layout, pipefitting, and millwright tasks. Fabricate custom parts based on equipment specifications.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical problems, ensuring equipment returns to safe, efficient operation.
  • Mechanical & Electrical Work: Replace bearings, align machinery, inspect power transmission systems, and repair electrical circuits and components.
  • Housekeeping & Safety: Keep all working areas clean and organized. Identify and report any substandard or hazardous conditions.
  • Training & Documentation: Mentor less experienced team members. Complete inspections, work orders, audits, and maintenance reports as required.
  • Additional Duties: Respond to emergency repairs and participate in major overhaul outages as needed. Support other maintenance needs as assigned.

To Succeed In This Role, You Should Bring
  • Educational and Licensing Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. MSHA certification required (or must obtain within a reasonable time frame).
  • Experience: 3 to 6 years of mechanical, welding, or maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
  • Skills: Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic tools; proficiency in reading technical manuals and safety documentation; strong communication skills (written and verbal); basic computer and typing skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team; bilingual skills (Spanish) a plus.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree or trade certification, military experience, or journeyman credentials.
Working Conditions
  • Safety First: Wearing protective equipment and adhering to safety protocols is a must.
  • Dynamic Environment: Work in outdoor and indoor environments, with exposure to physical labor and harsh conditions (extreme heat, humidity, extreme cold, noise, dust, chemicals).
  • Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, 50lbs frequently, 20 lbs. constantly), walking, climbing, standing, shoveling, and operating tools and equipment in physically intense settings. Must be physically able to perform all essential job functions, including the ability to communicate verbally using a phone and radio, to hear verbal commands and audible alarms in order to safely operate around large mobile equipment and automatic conveyor belt systems. Must be able to pass a physical exam to include back x-ray, vision test, hearing test, functional capability evaluation, respiratory fit test and drug / alcohol screen.
  • Work Schedule: Employees are expected to work varying shifts as needed, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
  • Work Location: This position is required to be performed in person at the assigned worksite. Remote work is not available for this role.
