Saint-Gobain’s Seattle, WA plant seeks a skilled Maintenance Mechanic III to investigate and solve reliability issues. You will support planned and unplanned maintenance, lead process modifications, and contribute to WCM initiatives, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor in a union setting.

Shifts run 7:00 am–7:00 pm, with potential long hours and weekend coverage. Requires 1–3 years of industrial mechanic experience or 2+ years of technical training, plus strong safety and blueprint skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years industrial mechanic experience or 2+ years technical training in manufacturing.
  • Experience with electrical motors, start/stop circuits, water and vacuum pumps, and chain/belt drive systems.
  • Strong adaptability, customer focus, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply instructions and blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair machinery to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal runtime.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders; install, troubleshoot, and repair equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Replace worn components; fabricate replacement parts via machining or welding.
  • Complete work orders promptly and collaborate with internal/external contacts.

Position Overview

The Maintenance Mechanic III position located at the Seattle, Washington plant is responsible for investigating and solving plant reliability issues, ensuring all production lines maintain optimal runtime with minimal downtime. This role supports planned and unplanned maintenance using World Class Manufacturing (WCM) tools, contributes to capital and non‑capital process equipment projects, and provides leadership in plant process modifications. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and operates within a union environment.

Shift: Day 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.

Essential Duties
  • Champion a safety‑first environment and stay current with new safety policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance: schedule inspections, service, and minor repairs on machinery to prevent breakdowns; review blueprints, drawings, and work orders to install, troubleshoot, and repair; gather and organize parts and tools before work; support 5S and WCM initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and repair: diagnose and fix malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, including emergency repairs; repair hydraulic/pneumatic systems, saws, dryers, mixers, plant systems, mills, and conveyors.
  • Replace parts: identify worn or damaged components, change blades or bits, and fabricate replacement parts through machining or welding when needed.
  • Work with internal and external contacts: complete work orders promptly and cost‑effectively.
  • Adhere to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, housekeeping standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain in‑depth knowledge of assigned equipment and safety updates.
  • Participate in pre‑shift meetings, biweekly training, and continuous improvement days.
  • Report to work consistently and on time.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of industrial mechanic experience or two or more years of technical training in manufacturing.
  • Experience with electrical motors, start/stop circuits, water and vacuum pumps, and chain/belt drive systems.
  • Strong adaptability, customer focus, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply instructions and blueprints.
Additional Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver results.
  • Proficiency in working with shop tools, metal stud framing, drywall, painting, floor repair, and concrete repair.
  • Basic knowledge of the safe and proper use of shop tools and building materials.
Working Conditions
  • Manufacturing plant environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature changes.
  • Normal plant operation is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; work hours may vary depending on business needs.
  • May require long hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Union‑represented position.
Physical Demands
  • Skillful handling of personal protective equipment; tasks requiring extensive walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, gripping, stair and ladder climbing, entering confined spaces, and occasional lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • May involve long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer, or engaged in a telephone conversation.
  • Ability to perform tasks in hot, cold, damp, or noisy environments.

Standard overtime: hourly rate multiplied by 1.5 (Standard Overtime).

Pay Rate: $39.00 per hour based on a union collective bargaining agreement, Day shift (7 am‑7 pm). Eligible for quarterly bonus payments up to 5-6% based on company and individual performance.
