Job summary

Grapevine Operating Company seeks an experienced maintenance professional to support repairs, preventive maintenance, and installations on rotating equipment at our Bakersfield facility. You will work in operating units and the shop, respond to calls, and ensure safety policies are strictly followed.

The role requires a Journeyman with 6+ years in refinery environments, a high school diploma or equivalent, and preference for vocational training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 6+ years of experience as a Journeyman.
• 6+ years of refinery environment experience.
• Vocational school or apprenticeship preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on rotating equipment and support systems.
• Machine alignment for pumps, compressors, and related gear.
• Rebuild pumps, compressors, air coolers, steam turbines, gearboxes.
• Hydro-test equipment and piping systems.
• Follow safety policies and HSSE requirements.

Job Summary

Under the supervision and guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor/Planner, this position supports the maintenance organization for performing repairs, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and installations on rotating equipment and support systems. This position involves working in and around operating units as well as shop work. Performs maintenance in all areas of the plant on a scheduled or emergency including call outs. Strong safety culture is a must and adherence to safety policies, plans and requirements is a must. This is a Safety Sensitive Position.

Essential Functions

• Competently perform machine alignment – pumps, compressors, blowers/fans, etc.
• Ability to rebuild API, ANSI pumps, compressors, air coolers, steam turbines, gearboxes, etc.
• Ability to hydro-test equipment and piping systems
• Operate pipe threading machines/equipment
• Ability to use Oxy/Acetylene welding/cutting equipment
• Operate/understand manual and hydraulic bolting equipment
• Be trained in or ability to be trained in industrial (forklift) truck, man lifts, etc.
• Ability to troubleshoot and identify problems and issues with equipment
• Identify and repair problematic parts of a machine
• Be able to balance rotating assemblies
• Ability to assist in developing maintenance and preventive maintenance procedures and training materials for rotating equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance activities by identifying and correcting potential issues.
• Adherence to Company procedures, policies and industry standards
• Performs additional tasks and duties as assigned and trained

Required Skills/Abilities

• Safety Awareness: Ability to recognize and identify potential hazards.
• Must hold a Driver License with excellent driving record and be able to pass pre-employment background screening and drug screening
• Ability to use precision tools to take accurate measurement
• Ability to understand industrial math
• Ability to read blueprints, P&IDs, schematics and manuals
• Ability to understand piping fabrication and layout
• Qualified in rigging technics with proper equipment applications
• Knowledge of general carpentry and repair
• Knowledge of fixed equipment, vessels, towers exchangers and boilers
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools
• Capable of operating manlift
• Experience in exchanger and bundle extraction and installation
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Be able to respond to emergency calls as needed including weekend and evenings
• Must be available for call outs including weekends, holidays and nights
• Ability to interact effectively and positively with all levels of Company personnel
• Basic understanding of HSSE requirements including confined space entry, lock out/tag out, fall protection, etc.
• Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
• Excellent organizational, time management skills and attention to detail
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Vocational school; or apprenticeship preferred
• 6+ years of experience as a Journeyman
• 6+ years of experience in a refinery environment

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to pass a physical test of pushing, pulling, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking
• Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
• Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
• Must be able to climb ladders and or stairs on tanks, vessels and structures; wear respirator; work around equipment containing high pressures and temperatures and various chemicals
• Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces
• Wear fire-retardant clothing and other personal protective equipment, such as SCBA, steel-toe shoes and ear and eye protection
• Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring equipment and materials
