Job summary

Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY seeks a Maintenance Mechanic II to perform skilled maintenance across electrical, plumbing, HVAC and steam fitting trades under general supervision. The role requires independent work, practical troubleshooting and the ability to guide others in tasks.

Training staff and ensuring safety are essential aspects of daily duties. You will interpret blueprints, diagnose faults, maintain and repair boilers, pumps and energy systems, and contribute to campus

Qualifications

• Promotion: two years of permanent non-competitive status in the title.
• Open Competitive: six years of journey-level experience in plumbing, heating, cooling or electrical systems.
• Special requirement: valid Non‑CDL or CDL with endorsements as required by NYS DMV.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains and replaces electrical wiring controls, circuit breakers, switches and light fixtures.
• Maintains and replaces air filtration components in HVAC equipment.
• Maintains and replaces plumbing lines, pipes and fixtures.
• Maintains heating pipes, boiler parts and plumbing fixtures.
• Maintains and repairs pumps, motors and compressors.
• Reads blueprints and technical documents pertaining to mechanical systems.
