Job summary

The State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, Highways Division is seeking a skilled mechanical technician to independently perform repair and maintenance of a wide variety of machinery and equipment, including water pumps and laundry equipment, following diagrams and manufacturer specs.

The role requires at least 3 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience, a valid driver's license, and legal authorization to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• Legal authorization to work in the United States as required for state employment.
• Three (3) years of mechanical repair and maintenance experience, or equivalent training.
• Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform skilled mechanical repair, maintenance, and adjustment of machinery and equipment.
• Inspect and conduct preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment in tunnels and tunnel approaches.
• Conduct structural inspections of tunnels and viaducts and follow manuals and specifications.

Duties Summary

• Independently perform skilled mechanical repair work in the adjustment, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of machinery and equipment such as water pumps and mechanical laundry equipment, and continue work assignments in accordance with diagrams.
• Inspect, repair and conduct preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment in tunnels and on tunnel approaches.
• Conduct and report on structural inspections of tunnels and viaducts, read operating manuals, and follow manufacturer's specifications and basic trade practices.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

• Legal Authorization To Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the state government to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
• Experience and Training: Three (3) years of work experience in performing mechanical repair and maintenance of a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
