Job summary

Macy’s is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic I to keep our distribution operations running safely and efficiently. You will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair material handling equipment and related warehouse systems, working independently on routine tasks and collaborating on projects.

This hands-on role offers growth in maintenance, safety training, and opportunities within a dynamic logistics environment. A strong foundation in problem solving and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of commercial or industrial maintenance experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, employment policies, and procedural manuals in English.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with co‑workers, supervisors, customers, office staff, receiving teams, fleet maintenance administration, management, carriers, and drivers.
• Ability to add, subtract, and multiply in all units of measure using whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
• Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality with the ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
• Experience performing basic electrical tasks, including replacing motors, fuses, and switches.
• Experience repairing or maintaining powered industrial truck batteries, battery changers, facility sweepers, or automated warehouse equipment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair material handling equipment, conveyor systems, powered industrial truck batteries, battery changers, facility sweepers, and related warehouse equipment.
• Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine whether adjustment or repair is needed.
• Dismantle, inspect, repair, replace, rebuild, assemble, and test equipment and mechanical parts to verify proper operation.
• Use shop tools such as grinders, drill presses, cutting torches, and welding equipment to repair or join metal parts.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while following OSHA, state, local, and Macy’s Logistics Operations safety standards.
