Job summary

Fulton County Schools is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I in General Maintenance to perform skilled tasks across multiple trades including carpentry, tile work, and related installations. Requires basic blueprint interpretation, tool use, and a valid Georgia driver license with CDL eligibility possible.

Applicants should have at least 2 years of experience, be able to work varying shifts, and meet safety standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings, layouts to complete tasks such as installing floor tile, carpet, ceiling tile, metal stud walls, hang drywall, blinds, bleacher repair.
• Utilize hand tools, testing and diagnostic equipment, simple power tools for trade tasks.
• Clean worksites; haul debris; store tools and materials properly.
• Demonstrate knowledge of tools and safety practices used in trades.
• Determine proper methods, equipment, and materials to facilitate cost-effective repairs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator.

Summary

Performs a variety of skilled tasks associated with various trades including carpentry, trowel trades, lighting, ceiling tile and floor tile

• Utilizes blueprints, schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to complete various tasks which may include installing floor tile, carpet, ceiling tile, metal stud walls, hang dry wall, hang window blinds, indoor/outdoor bleacher repair and other general installation and repair work
• Utilizes hand tools, testing and diagnostic equipment, simple power tools and equipment as appropriate for the trade to complete assigned tasks
• Cleans worksites including hauling debris and trash, cleaning tools and equipment and ensuring tools, materials and equipment are stored properly
• Demonstrates knowledge of tools and safety practices commonly used in various trades
• Determines proper methods, equipment, and materials to facilitate cost effective repairs
• Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Certification/Licensure

Valid Georgia Driver License required

Eligible to acquire a CDL

Must be insurable by Fulton County School insurance carriers

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Working knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the general repair trade
• Knowledge in use of hand and power tools and large equipment attachments related to the trade
• Skilled in the operation of tractors, backhoe and skid loader, if applicable to the trade
• Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal
• Must be able to work variable shifts

Working Conditions

• Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity
• Must be able to work from tall ladders, lifts, scaffolding and/or bucket truck

Physical Demands

• Typically requires climbing ladders; pushing and/or pulling
• Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances
• Must be able to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor
