Job summary

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to service the Orange Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Orlando, FL. You will perform electrical and mechanical repairs, inspect HVAC and related systems, and maintain plumbing fixtures and vehicles to ensure safe, efficient operations.

Minimum High School Diploma and valid driver’s license required; two years of relevant maintenance experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide rational numbers.
• Ability to prepare and maintain reports and records.
• Ability to effectively work with youth, co-workers, supervisors and the public.
• Knowledge of good housekeeping tasks relative to maintaining the sanitary conditions of the facility.
• Knowledge of the Department and facility policies and procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in a timely manner.
• Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine checks to ensure motor vehicles are in safe operating condition and to do minor repairs of these vehicles.

Minimum Biweekly Rate of Pay: $1,424.61 Bi-weekly (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, or electrical or mechanical equipment.

Special Notes

• Successful completion of Background and Drug Screening is a condition of employment.
• Must be at least 19 years of age.
