Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for our Tar Heel, NC facility on the 3rd shift. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot production lines, and work with teams to ensure safe, compliant operation.

The role requires knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and welding systems; GMP and safety procedures; and the ability to read work orders and generate daily reports. Competitive pay and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; 1+ years in industrial maintenance or 4 years in food manufacturing maintenance preferred.
  • Must be able to operate forklifts and other PIT equipment.
  • Ability to read and execute work orders and translate equipment manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily preventive maintenance on production lines.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and welding-related issues.
  • Dismantle defective equipment and install replacement parts.
  • Lubricate and maintain machinery; follow GMPs and safety rules.
  • Assist teams across Production and Quality as needed.

Mechanic must be able to work as a team or individually.
