Job summary

Caribbean Food Delights, Inc. in Tappan, NY, is seeking a hands-on mechanic with at least five years of related experience to support first and second shifts and ensure equipment runs safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Follow GMP and safety rules; adhere to confined space procedures.
• Check boilers and HVAC systems before start-up and shut down.
• Inspect air compressors and refrigeration systems at start-up times.
• Disassemble/assemble kettles; clean and lubricate machines daily.
• Disassemble/assemble Rademaker and Colborne lines; set dyes per specs.
• Check lighting system weekly and replace bulbs as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance on Sifters and Silos monthly.
• Record repairs and maintenance; maintain inventory of parts.
• Order replacement parts and prepare reports; ensure CFD compliance.

Job description

Caribbean Food Delights, a high speed frozen food manufacturing plant located in Tappan, Rockland County, NY, seeks a hands-on mechanic with minimum 5 years related work experience for the first & second shifts, to assist in the upkeep of the plants equipment in accordance with best practices, diagrams, manuals and manufacturer specifications and ensure that machines and equipment are operating in a safe and effective manner at all times.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The Following

• Follow and adhere to GMP and safety rules of the company; follow and adhere to confined space procedures set forth by the company.
• Check boilers and HVAC systems to ensure that they are working correctly each morning and evening, before start-up and shut down, respectively.
• Check to ensure that air compressors and refrigeration systems for production are at the correct temperatures, at start-up time each day.
• Disassemble and assemble kettles, start machines and observe gauges and other instruments on machines, to ensure adherence to processing standards; clean and lubricate machines, using rags, brushes and grease guns, wherever necessary, on a daily basis.
• Disassemble and assemble Rademaker and Colborne lines, using wrenches, pliers and other hand tools supplied to work on these lines, daily.
• Set dyes on Rademaker and Colborne lines, according to specifications during daily startup.
• Check lighting system throughout the plant, weekly; replace bulbs where necessary.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on Sifters of both Silos, on a monthly basis.
• Check equipment components for repair or replacement; clean, lubricate equipment, regularly.
• Organize and maintain inventory of all components needed for the maintenance of equipment.
• Examine all machines and equipment to ensure that they are consistently, operating within specifications.
• Evaluate equipment and machinery performance and recommend improvements to the Engineer or the President.
• Set up equipment and conveyors by adjusting to product specification; test set up.
• Maintain packaging quality by inspecting in-process and finished production; verify specification, identify any problems and make necessary adjustments.
• Clean and lubricate equipment on a regular basis and align equipment parts, if necessary.
• Check for machine performance and keep records of repairs and maintenance and refer to these records during inspection and repairs.
• Perform repairs and general upkeep of CFDs overall facility, regularly.
• Order replacement parts and materials, using CFDs product order procedure.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports on an ongoing basis.
• Ensure that all tools used to perform work during the work day are returned to the shop, at the end of each work day.
• Comply with OSHA/USDA/HACCP Safety and Health rules, at all times.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times.
• Perform any other duties for Caribbean Food Delights and the related companies as assigned and unilaterally determined by CFD.
