Job summary

Pendleton Woolen Mills in Washougal, WA is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of production equipment and facility systems. This role supports Mill operations and may provide guidance to Maintenance 2 and 3 staff.

Responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam systems; performing preventive maintenance; operating boilers; supporting HVAC and WWTP; reading blueprints; and

Maintenance Mechanic

POSITION SUMMARY

Maintenance 1 performs advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of production equipment and facility systems. This position works independently, supports Mill operations, and may provide technical guidance to Maintenance 2 and Maintenance 3 employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and test industrial machinery, production equipment, and facility systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, and fluid-pumping system issues and determine appropriate repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment and systems.
• Operate and maintain boilers; lead annual boiler preventive maintenance as assigned.
• Support WWTP, HVAC, and evaporative cooler operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Read blueprints, technical drawings, layouts, and specifications; use precision measuring instruments and identify required mechanical components.
• Use maintenance tools and equipment for cutting, threading, bending, drilling, grinding, welding-related work, and other repair activities.
• Perform rigging and safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, scissor lifts, and other required mobile equipment.
• Follow lockout/tagout, PPE, machine safety, and all other applicable safety procedures.
• Maintain required QMS, maintenance, work-instruction, and training documentation.
• Maintain clean and orderly work areas, tools, and equipment and support continuous improvement of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance and training to Maintenance 2 and Maintenance 3 employees and coordinate their work as assigned.
• Coordinate contractors performing maintenance, repair, installation, and facility work.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and be available for overtime and call-in work, including off-shifts and weekends as necessary.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum seven (7) years of hands‑on mechanical maintenance and repair experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or comparable environment.

• Advanced mechanical aptitude and ability to independently troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and install industrial machinery and equipment.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, fluid‑pumping, heat‑transfer, welding, and rigging principles.
• Boiler, wastewater treatment, HVAC, and evaporative cooling experience is desirable.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical documentation and safely use required tools, measuring instruments, forklifts, lifts, cranes, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to perform basic math and read, write, understand, and follow instructions in English.
• Ability to train and provide technical guidance to other Maintenance employees.
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred. Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, climb, and work in various positions while performing maintenance duties.
• Ability to work from ladders, roofs, lifts, and platforms at heights up to approximately 50 feet.
• Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds and occasionally assist with loads up to approximately 150 pounds using appropriate assistance or equipment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work using hand tools, power tools, precision instruments, and machinery throughout the shift.
• Work is performed in an industrial Mill environment and may include noise, dust, lint, heat, cold, steam, moving machinery, oils, wastewater areas, confined spaces, outdoor weather, and other industrial conditions.
• Required to use appropriate PPE and follow all applicable safety practices.
• Demonstrates safe work practices and contributes to ongoing facility and departmental safety improvement efforts.

Monday-Friday 7:00AM-3:30PM
Wages and annual increases are provided in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Eligible employees receive ten (10) paid holidays, medical, dental, prescription drug coverage, short-term disability benefits, vision care reimbursement, shoe reimbursement, and a 401(k) retirement plan with Company matching contributions up to $750 annually, plus an annual employer fixed contribution of $1,300. Employees also begin accruing sick leave and vacation time starting on their first day of employment.
