Qualifications

Position Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Lead, the Maintenance Mechanic will be accountable for all mechanical tasks, including corrective, preventative/predictive programs for all plant equipment and building facilities.

Position Responsibilities
  • Provide maintenance repairs to all mechanical components and installations across the manufacturing process in all areas of production.
  • Troubleshooting all plant equipment and building facilities to ensure a safe high quality production environment and to support maintenance requirements so that production targets are achieved.
  • Assist in system or process improvement activities and any expansion or development projects as required.
  • Determine and select appropriate tools and spare parts to execute maintenance to all plant equipment, maintain inventory accuracy in stock component levels by entering necessary requisitions to the maintenance planner when using parts or consumables.
  • Assist in planning the installation and removal of equipment and perform start-up and run-in commissioning process and shutdown activities for the plant facility
  • Troubleshooting and repairing gearboxes, motors, vacuum pumps, blowers, roasters, grinders, conveyors, packaging equipment transfer systems along with the compressors and HVAC systems at a basic level.
  • Maintain regular contact with production management and colleagues including the Production Manager, Shift Managers and Maintenance Staff as well as Vendors and Contractors
  • Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining product quality and food safety program practices including BRC, HACCP, QA / QC, GMP, Sanitation and good hygiene practices.
  • Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining health and safety program practices
  • Minimizing downtime by conducting maintenance checks and adjustments, ensuring planned and autonomous maintenance is carried out
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, slowdowns, peak demands throughout the production process and directly intervene in the process to maintain a smooth flow to achieve output
  • Perform all machine operator functions if required and provide training to operators to increase efficiency
  • Provide guidance and leadership to operators across multiple production lines
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the manufacturing industry, repairing and maintaining equipment, with basic electrical equipment knowledge, and ancillary equipment is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Have experience using the Internet, spreadsheets, and MRP preferred.
  • Certificates pertaining to the job such as: Millwright/Industrial Mechanic, or Industrial Electrician are preferred.
  • Understanding of Production processing and Quality Control Measurements.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; and write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, and comply with all safety policies and requirements.
  • The Maintenance Technician is responsible for staying up to date on new products, equipment, technology, and techniques.
  • Experienced in machine shop equipment, production & packaging line automation, pneumatics and vacuum systems and fault analysis on the above.
  • Basic ability to read I/O’s and diagnose signals on programmable controllers (HMI/PLC), Allen Bradley, Omron and Panasonic etc.
  • Experience with form, fill and seal bagger fillers employing vertical seal and quad seal formats for dry granular products in plastics or metalized film, can line fillers, lid crimpers and seamers.
  • Understanding of VFFS, HFFS, Cartoner or high-speed packaging an asset
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems for finished goods carton & tray erectors shrink wrap tunnels and stretch wrappers
  • Experience with production scales, load cells, and batching systems
  • Multi-port rotating diverters, rotary air locks, pneumatic valves and positioning systems, dust extraction systems (Torit), screens and shakers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems and find solutions to solve and repair is required.
  • Ability to assemble and dismantle machinery and equipment using hand and power tools is required.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic drawings and diagrams and understand equipment operation to troubleshoot and repair various equipment is required.
  • Ability to identify non-standard situations and/or issues and report to Team Lead or Manager is required.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively is required.
