Responsibilities
- Diagnose malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
- Repair, rebuild, and replace various plant and process equipment, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, and related items.
- Repair, rebuild, and replace hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and understand flow controls.
- Troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) (nomenclature, input, output, etc.).
- Replace instrumentation such as level sensors, RTDs, chart recorders, proximity sensors, and photo‑eyes.
- Use CMMS to process work orders, preventive maintenance (PM), and inventory management.
- Operate forklifts and aerial platforms.
- Perform required preventive maintenance on plant and process equipment.
- Drill, file, grind, and cut various materials using hand and/or power tools.
- Operate chop or band saws for cutting metals.
- Execute welding of metals using wire‑feed, stick, or TIG methods.
- Machine materials using a mill and/or lathe.
- Weld and polish stainless steel to 3A standards for the dairy industry.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on plant equipment, including amp and voltage readings, fuse testing, and interpreting electrical prints.
- Replace electrical components such as fuses, relays, transformers, wiring, and related equipment.
- Start, stop, adjust, and troubleshoot the ammonia system.
- Repair or replace ammonia equipment as needed.
- Repair HVAC systems and controls.
- Inspect, replace, or repair door systems, including closures, strikes, fire doors, overhead doors, roll‑up doors, and manual doors.
- Perform plumbing tasks such as repairing/replacing fixtures, clearing clogs, piping, and repairing water heaters.
- Repair or replace steam system equipment, including valves, traps, return pumps, and perform conductivity tests.
- Conduct boiler water tests and operate the boiler during weekend and holiday rotations.
- Collaborate with coworkers and supervisors to resolve maintenance problems.
- Work weekends and holidays as needed to complete job duties.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and tools.
Qualifications

- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversion of weight, volume, and distance units.
- Comfortable working while exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs. independently and/or move up to 100lbs. with assistance.
- Ability to complete at least one job‑related course per semester.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb up to four flights of stairs, and use ladders for extended periods.
- Reading and writing proficiency in English.
- High level of welding, electrical, or mechanical skills is advantageous.
- Flexibility to work various shifts as plant and business needs arise.
