Job summary

Covia is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic for its Guion, AR facility. The role focuses on safe, reliable operation of crushing, screening and conveying equipment, with responsibilities spanning preventive maintenance, inspections, and timely repair of plant systems.

You will work with bearings, seals, lubricants, and pneumatic and hydraulic piping, performing alignments, disassembly/reassembly, and crane rigging as needed, while adhering to company safety standards and CMMS documentation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in maintenance.
  • Apprenticeship or technical program completed or equivalent training.
  • Valid welding certificate (ASME 4G) in past 5 years.
  • Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and document findings.
  • Install, align, and service bearings and related components.
  • Disassemble and rebuild crushing, screening and conveying equipment.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic piping systems and repair as needed.
  • Operate crane and perform rigging; use precision measuring tools.
  • Complete post-job inspections and maintain housekeeping standards.

Covia is looking for a dynamic Maintenance Mechanic who will have a positive impact on the team at its Guion, AR location.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:
  • To comply with all company safety and environmental requirements in the performance of the job including participation and co-operation in safety meetings, safety inspections and incident and accident investigations.
  • Must comply with company, state and governmental health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Must complete and document Workplace Inspections in a timely manner
  • Must be able to perform preventive maintenance checks and report findings. (Both verbally and in writing)
  • Must participate in the work order initiation and documentation process.
  • Must be well versed in the installation and maintenance of all types of bearings.
  • Must possess a good knowledge of oil and grease seals and their applications.
  • Must possess a good knowledge of lubricants and their uses.
  • Must be able to perform shaft alignments using precision alignment tools.
  • Must be able to perform chain and sprocket installation and alignments.
  • Must be able to perform belt and sheave installation and alignment.
  • Must be able to install and align all types of new equipment.
  • Must be able to disassemble and rebuild all types of crushing, screening and conveying equipment.
  • Must possess a high level of rigging skills and crane operation with both stationary and mobile lifting equipment.
  • Must have experience and expertise in the installation and trouble‑shooting of pneumatic and hydraulic piping systems, including the use of proper fittings and connectors.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair all plant environmental equipment and demonstrate knowledge of dust collection and baghouse operations.
  • Must be able to service and perform all types of repairs to air compressors presently in service.
  • Ensures maintenance tools are kept in good condition, repaired or replaced when necessary.
  • Must possess and maintain a complete set of personal hand tools as per the Company tool list.
  • Must be able to operate plant mobile equipment.
  • Must be proficient in the use of precision measuring tools. (micrometers, dial indicators, etc.)
  • Must be proficient in all kinds of acetylene cutting and welding.
  • Must be proficient in use of carbon arcing
  • Must be proficient with fabrication and basic design of steel components and assemblies
  • Must be proficient in all kinds of acetylene cutting and welding.
  • Should be able to perform thickness testing.
  • Should understand what thermography is used for.
  • Should have a basic understanding of non‑destructive testing.
  • Should possess some knowledge of CMMS Systems and be willing to correctly complete work orders and checklists including signing and dating.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and perform repairs to hydraulic systems.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and perform repairs to pneumatics systems.
  • Must perform post-job inspection to ensure a high level of housekeeping standards.
  • Must be willing to upgrade skills by participating in vendor training.
  • Must be willing to upgrade level of skills by participating in company‑designated training.
  • Must be willing to train on any new equipment installations.
  • Must be willing to perform any other assigned tasks not specifically indicated.
  • Must perform all tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of experience required.
  • Must be able to work in high places and confined spaces.
  • Must be receptive to overtime and call‑outs.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have completed an apprenticeship program, technical program, or have verifiable equivalent experience and training.
  • Must have possessed a valid welding certificate (e.g ASME 4G) for Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, and Inverted Stick Arc welding in the past 5 years.
  • Must be well versed on all aspects of safety.
  • Must be a self‑starter and possess good verbal communication skills.
  • Must have adequate computer, writing and mathematical skills.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment would be an asset.
